Achosion COVID-19 Cases

***Bilingual blog – please scroll down for English***

Helo Bawb

Gobeithio eich bod yn iawn ac yn cadw’n ddiogel. Diweddariad cyflym i chi o Fro Edern.

Achosion Positif

Gallwn gadarnhau ar ôl wythnos gyntaf y tymor fod 24 o ddisgyblion, un athro ac un cynorthwy-ydd ym Mro Edern wedi profi’n bositif dros yr wythnos diwethaf, ers i’r ysgol ailddechrau. Mae’r achosion positif wedi’u gwasgaru’n weddol o hafal ar draws blynyddoedd yr ysgol. Mae rhai disgyblion eraill yn disgwyl am ganlyniad prawf ar hyn o bryd, ar ôl derbyn canlyniad LFT positif. Mae’n debyg fod 430 o achosion newydd yng Nghaerdydd i gyd heddiw.

Yn amlwg, mae’r rheolau ar gyfer hunanynysu wedi newid ers dechrau Awst, felly’n gyfreithiol, nid oes angen i bron neb hunanynysu bellach, ond yn amlwg, mae pobl sy’n derbyn canlyniad PCR positif angen hunanynysu fel o’r blaen. Petaen ni’n dilyn yr hen reolau ac yn mesur yn erbyn ein cynlluniau eistedd, byddai dwsinau o ddisgyblion i ffwrdd o’r ysgol erbyn hyn, am eu bod wedi derbyn gwersi o fewn 2m i’r 24 disgybl positif.

Hunanynysu?

Er gwaetha’r newid cyfreithiol, gofynnwn i chi ystyried yn ddwys cyn anfon disgybl sy’n byw yn yr un tŷ â pherson sydd wedi derbyn canlyniad positif, i’r ysgol. Mae hyn yn golygu disgyblion gyda rhieni neu frodyr a chwiorydd positif ayb, sef cysylltiadau agos. Mae gennym staff a oedd yn flaenorol yn cysgodi, ac mae gennym ddisgyblion sydd yn fregus eu hiechyd.

Os oes achos positif yn eich cartref, rydyn ni’n gofyn yn garedig i chi, felly, gadw eich plentyn i ffwrdd o’r ysgol am y cyfnod hunanynysu. Os ydych chi’n dewis anwybyddu’r argymhelliad yma, bydd angen i’ch plentyn gymryd prawf PCR (yr un swyddogol) ar ddiwrnod 2 a diwrnod 8 ar ôl canlyniad positif y person sy’n gyswllt agos, er mwyn sicrhau nad ydynt yn cario’r feirws.

Os yw eich plentyn yn y Chweched, dros 18 ac heb dderbyn dau ddôs o’r brechlyn, yna byddan nhw angen hunanynysu am 10 niwrnod, fel o’r blaen.

Gweithdrefnau Bro Edern

Yn yr ysgol, rydyn ni’n parhau fel o’r blaen i wneud popeth allwn ni er mwyn amddiffyn holl deulu Bro Edern:

  • system un ffordd
  • mygydau yn y coridorau ac mewn llefydd canolog
  • mygydau ar y bysiau ysgol
  • golchi dwylo ar ddechrau’r dydd
  • diheintio dwylo yn ystod y dydd
  • diheintio byrddau a chadeiriau rhwng defnyddwyr
  • pellter cymdeithasol gorfodol o 2m i staff
  • pellter cymdeithasol i ddisgyblion pan fo hynny’n bosibl
  • profion LFT ddwywaith yr wythnos i staff a disgyblion

Profion LFT

Allwn ni ddim pwysleisio ddigon pa mor bwysig yw hi i chi fel teuluoedd barhau i brofi eich plant gyda’r profion LFT yn y bocsys glas ddwywaith yr wythnos. Os nad ydych wedi gwneud hyn o’r blaen, nawr yw’r amser i ddechrau. Mae nifer o deuluoedd wedi darganfod ar hyd yr wythnos diwethaf fod eu plentyn yn bositif, er nad ydynt ar y pryd yn dangos unrhyw symtomau. Wedi cael prawf PCR mae nifer ohonynt yn hwyrach wedi dechrau teimlo’n sâl. Mae hwn yn gam pwysig tuag at geisio lleihau lledaeniad COVID-19. Mae bocsys sbâr yn y swyddfa.

Dysgu Byw

Os yw eich plentyn gartref oherwydd rhesymau COVID-19, mae darpariaeth dysgu byw’r ysgol yn parhau o hyd. Dyma ein canllawiau diweddaraf, gan gynnwys yr amseroedd y dylai eich plentyn ymuno â phob gwers:

Parcio

Mae’r cwynion gan y cymdogion wedi dechrau’n barod. Plîs wnewch chi fod yn ystyriol wrth barcio yng nghyffiniau’r ysgol a dilyn Rheolau’r Ffordd Fawr yn ofalus. Peidiwch â blocio dreifs y cymdogion, oherwydd mae’n golygu nad ydynt yn gallu gadael y tŷ. Hoffwn eich atgoffa ei bod yn anghyfreithlon parcio ar linellau melyn dwbl ac mae’n bosibl i chi dderbyn 3 phwynt ar eich trwydded am barcio ar zigzags. Mae hyn oll yn medru bod yn wirioneddol beryglus i gerddwyr a gyrwyr eraill yn yr ardal.

Noson Wybodaeth i rieni bl 13

Mae Miss Land yn edrych ymlaen at weld rhieni bl 13 ar-lein nos yfory (nos Fawrth 14 Medi) er mwyn i chi fedru derbyn gwybodaeth am bob math o bethau pwysig – cyrsiau bl 13, arholiadau, adolygu, dewis prifysgolion, ffurflenni UCAS ayb.

English Blog

Hello Everyone

I hope that you are all well and keeping safe and sound. A quick update from Bro Edern.

Positive Cases

We can confirm after the first week of the new term that 24 pupils, one teacher and one learning assistant in Bro Edern have tested positive since the beginning of term. The positive cases are spread fairly evenly across the school’s different year groups. Some other pupils are currently awaiting results, having received a positive LFT result. According to the stats, there are 430 new cases in the whole of Cardiff today.

As you know, the rules for self-isolation have changed since the beginning of August, so legally, hardly anyone must self isolate these days. Clearly, people with a positive PCR result need to self-isolate, as before. If we currently followed the old rules and measured against our seating plans, we would have dozens of pupils away from school, because these pupils will have received lessons within 2m of the 24 positive pupils.

Self isolation?

Despite the legal change, we ask you to consider very carefully before sending a pupil living in the same household as anyone who has tested positive, to school. This means that pupils with positive parents or positive siblings etc. who are close contacts, should stay at home. We have staff who were previously shielding and we have pupils who are clinically vulnerable.

If there is a positive case in your home, we kindly ask you to keep your child away from school for the self-isolation period. If you choose to ignore this recommendation and continue to send them to school, your child will need to take a PCR test (the official one, not a LFT test) on day 2 and day 8 after the close contact’s positive result, to make sure they are not carrying the virus.

If your child is in the sixth form, is over 18 and is not double jabbed, they will need to self isolate for 10 days as a close contact, just as before.

Bro Edern Procedures

At school, we continue to do all we can to protect the whole Bro Edern family:

  • one way system
  • masks in corridors and communal areas
  • masks on school buses
  • hand washing at the start of the day
  • hand disinfection during the day
  • disinfection of tables and chairs between users
  • compulsory 2m social distancing for staff
  • social distancing for pupils, where possible
  • twice weekly LFT tests for staff and pupils

LFT Tests

We cannot stress enough how important it is for you, as families, to continue testing your children twice a week with the LFT kits in the blue boxes. If you have not done this before, now is the time to start. Many families have discovered during the last week that their child is positive, although they did not have any symptoms at the time. After a PCR test, many of them started feeling ill some time later. These LFT tests are an important step towards trying to reduce the spread of COVID-19. There are spare boxes in the office.

Online Learning

If your child is at home for COVID-19 reasons, the school’s live learning provision continues once again. Here are our latest guidelines, including the times your child should join each lesson:

Parking

Unfortunately, complaints by our neighbours have already started. Please be considerate when parking in the vicinity of the school and always follow the Highway Code carefully. Please don’t block neighbours’ driveways, as it means that they cannot leave the house. I would like to remind you that parking on double yellow lines is illegal, and you can receive 3 points on your licence for parking on zigzags. Careless parking can be very dangerous for pedestrians and other drivers in the area.

Information Evening for Year 13 Parents

Miss Land is looking forward to seeing year 13 parents online tomorrow night (Tuesday 14 September) so that you can receive information about all sorts of important things – year 13 courses, exams, revision, choosing universities, UCAS forms etc.

The meeting in Welsh is at 5:30pm:

Chromebooks Bl 7

Bilingual Blog – English below

Helo Bawb!

Gobeithio bod eich plentyn yn setlo mewn yn dda ym mlwyddyn 7.

Fel y gwyddoch o’r blog haf a anfonwyd ymlaen atoch (gobeithio!) gan ysgol gynradd eich plentyn ar ddechrau gwyliau’r haf, bydd eich plentyn yn derbyn eu Chromebook ysgol nos Iau yma.

Dyma’r dyfyniad o flog yr haf:

Fel y gwyddoch mae’n siwr, mae Bro Edern yn ysgol arloesi digidol 1:1 sydd wedi gweithio gydag un ddyfais i bob disgybl ers 2013. Rydym ni’n disgwyl i Chromebooks blwyddyn 7 gyrraedd o’r sir reit ar ddechrau mis Medi, felly bydd noson i rieni gasglu’r Chromebooks ar nos Iau 9 Medi 2021. Unwaith i’ch plentyn ddechrau ym Mro Edern, byddwn yn anfon cytundebau ar gyfer disgyblion a rhieni a bydd angen cyfrannu tuag at yr yswiriant. Byddwch yn derbyn y Chromebook am ddim ond byddwch angen talu £50 tuag at yr yswiriant mewn taliad neu randaliadau ar ParentPay. Bydd hyn yn cael ei osod i fyny i chi ym mis Medi. Ni fydd modd i chi gasglu’r Chromebook oni bai bod popeth wedi cael ei gyflawni, sef y cytundebau i gyd a’r taliad cychwynnol o leiafswm o £10 ar gyfer yr yswiriant. Eleni, bydd y rhieni angen dod â chasyn trwchus sy’n amddiffyn y Chromebook i’r cyfarfod gyda nhw, er mwyn mynd â’r Chromebook adref. Bydd yn rhaid i’r disgyblion gario’r Chromebook yn y casyn hwn bob amser. Bydd manylion llawn am y casyn sydd angen yn dilyn ddechrau mis Medi pan fyddwn yn gweld union faint a model y Chromebooks.

Os nad yw rhieni newydd yn gyfarwydd â gwaith digidol Bro Edern, dyma’r adroddiad arfer dda yn sgil ymweliad Estyn yn 2017:

Adroddiad Arfer Dda Bro Edern – Estyn 2017

A dyma’r adroddiad oedd yn y Western Mail, yn sôn am y ffaith i ni ymddangos ar restr #EdTech50 o’r ysgolion sy’n gwneud y defnydd gorau o dechnoleg mewn ysgolion ledled Prydain:

Erthygl #EdTech50

Dyma’r ychwanegiad at y blog a gyhoeddwyd yr wythnos diwethaf:

Gallwn bellach gadarnhau y bydd disgyblion blwyddyn 7 yn derbyn Chromebook Lenovo 100e 2il genhedlaeth. Mae’n mesur 29cm x 20.5cm sef hefyd 11.6 modfedd x 8 modfedd. Mae’r sgrîn yn 11.6 modfedd. Sicrhewch eich bod yn prynu casyn trwchus cyn y noson casglu Chromebooks, sef nos Iau nesaf 9 Medi. Mae angen protective sleeve case gyda zip, os gwelwch yn dda.

Er mwyn helpu rhieni i weld pa fath o gasyn sydd angen, gellir gweld rhai enghreifftiau addas yma – ond yn amlwg does dim angen prynu un o Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/s?k=lenovo+100e+chromebook+sleeve+case

Mae angen double checio’r union faint cyn prynu – eich cyfrifoldeb chi yw darllen y print mân. Ni ellir rhyddhau Chromebooks onibai bod rhieni’n dod â chasyn addas i’r cyfarfod. Bydd cytundebau’r Chromebooks a manylion llawn am y cyfarfod yn dilyn erbyn dechrau wythnos nesaf.

Trefniadau nos Iau:

Gellir casglu Chromebook eich plentyn rhwng 3:30pm a 6pm o dderbynfa’r ysgol. Bydd angen ciwio gyda phellter cymdeithasol, os gwelwch yn dda. Noder, os gwelwch yn dda, ein bod yn disgwyl ciw hir yn syth ar ddiwedd y diwrnod ysgol, felly dylech ystyried hyn yn eich trefniadau.

Er mwyn derbyn Chromebook eich plentyn nos Iau, mae angen i bob un o’r canlynol fod yn eu lle:

  1. Cytundeb Chromebook Rhieni wedi llenwi:
    https://forms.gle/ZTLLxTLZn7LvApsR6
  2. Cytundeb Chromebook Disgybl wedi llenwi: https://forms.gle/Yp1vdGRmeN6R8p7A7
  3. Cytundeb Dysgu Byw Rhieni wedi llenwi:
    https://forms.gle/iZvRqP69aS8ujCLA8
  4. Cytundeb Dysgu Byw Disgybl wedi llenwi:
    https://forms.gle/C7rUjeaEg5RJAqNr7
  5. Taliad o rhwng £5 a £50 ar ParentPay – £50 yw cost llawn yr yswiriant. Gallwch dalu mewn rhandaliadau neu un taliad o £50. Nid oes angen talu am y Chromebook ei hunan.
  6. Casyn Protective Sleeve addas – rhaid dangos hwn yn y cyfarfod, wrth gasglu’r Chromebook – gweler uchod am y mesuriadau

Mae’r rhain yn ddyfeisiau drud, felly rwy’n sicr y byddwch yn deall na fyddwn yn rhyddhau’r Chromebooks nos Iau onibai bod pob pwynt wedi cael ei gyflawni.

Bydd y Cyfeillion (PTA) yn cynnal eu Swap Siop os hoffech edrych am wisg ysgol ail law addas nos Iau.

Bydd Mr Gary Ellis – sef Pennaeth Blwyddyn 7 ac aelodau eraill o’r tîm arwain ar gael am sgwrs.

Os oes unrhyw ymholiadau pellach yn y cyfamser, cysylltwch da chi gyda Mr Ellis drwy e-bost: GEllis@ysgolbroedern.cardiff.sch.uk

Edrych ymlaen at eich gweld nos Iau.

English Version:

Hello Everyone!

I hope that your child has settled well into Bro Edern.

As you already know from the summer blog that was sent on to you (we hope!) by your child’s primary school at the beginning of the summer holidays, your child will receive their school Chromebook on Thursday evening this week.

This was the summer blog:

As many of you probably know, Bro Edern is a 1: 1 digital pioneer school, working with one device per pupil since 2013. We expect the new year 7 Chromebooks to arrive from the county right at the beginning of September, therefore we are arranging an evening for parents to collect the Chromebooks on Thursday 9 September 2021. Once your child starts at Bro Edern, we will send out contracts for pupils and parents and you will need to contribute towards the insurance. You will receive the Chromebook free of charge, but you will need to pay £50 towards the insurance, as one payment or in instalments on ParentPay. This will be set up for you in September. You will not be able to collect the Chromebook unless all contracts have been completed, and the initial minimum payment of £10 has been paid. This year, parents will also need to bring a padded protective case to the meeting in order for the Chromebook to leave the premises. Pupils will have to carry the Chromebook around in this case at all times. Information about the exact size of the case needed will follow in September, once we see the actual size and model of this year’s Chromebooks.

If new parents are not familiar with Bro Edern’s digital work, here is the good practice report following Estyn’s visit in 2017:

Bro Edern’s Best Practice Report – Estyn 2017

And here is the report that appeared in the Western Mail, following our appearance on the #EdTech50 list of schools who make the best use of technology across the UK:

#EdTech50 Article

This was the addition to the blog last week:

We can now confirm that year 7 pupils will receive a 2nd generation Lenovo 100e Chromebook. It measures 29cm x 20.5cm, which is also 11.6 inches x 8 inches. The screen is 11.6 inches. Please make sure that you buy a thick sleeve case before the Chromebook collection night, which is next Thursday 9 September. A protective sleeve case with a zip is required, please.

In order to help parents to get an idea of what is required, some suitable examples can be found here – but they clearly do not need to be bought from Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/s?k=lenovo+100e+chromebook+sleeve+case

You need to double check the sizing before you buy – it is your responsibility to read the small print. Chromebooks cannot be issued unless parents bring a suitable case to the meeting. Chromebook contracts and full details of the meeting will follow by the beginning of next week.

These are Thursday’s arrangements:

Your child’s Chromebook can be collected by a parent between 3:30 and 6pm from the school reception. Please form a queue with social distancing. Please note that we expect a long queue at the end of the school day, therefore you should bear this in mind with your arrangements.

In order to receive your child’s Chromebook on Thursday, each of these needs to be in place:

  1. Parental Chromebook contract completed:
    https://forms.gle/ZTLLxTLZn7LvApsR6
  2. Pupil Chromebook contract completed:
    https://forms.gle/Yp1vdGRmeN6R8p7A7
  3. Parental online learning contract completed:
    https://forms.gle/iZvRqP69aS8ujCLA8
  4. Pupil online learning contract completed:
    https://forms.gle/C7rUjeaEg5RJAqNr7
  5. Insurance payment of between £5 and £50 on ParentPay – £50 is the full cost. You can pay in installments or as a one-off payment of £50. There is no need to pay for the Chromebook itself.
  6. Suitable Protective Sleeve case – see full details above for sizings – this MUST be shown in the meeting, as you collect the Chromebook

These are very expensive devices, so I’m sure that you will understand that unless all 6 points have been covered, we will not issue the Chromebook on Thursday.

The Cyfeillion (PTA) will also be holding their Swap Shop if you would like to have a look for suitable second hand uniform on Thursday.

Mr Gary Ellis and other members of the senior leadership team will be available for a chat.

Any queries in the meantime, please contact Mr Ellis by e-mail: GEllis@ysgolbroedern.cardiff.sch.uk

Looking forward to seeing you on Thursday evening.

Summer 2021

+++++ Update 2 September +++++

LFT Tests

The latest government guidelines state that all pupils and staff should take a lateral flow test (LFT) before returning to school this year, and then twice a week thereafter, to try and control the spread of COVID-19. Thank you in advance for helping to keep the whole Bro Edern family safe. Blue LFT boxes are available for collection from reception tomorrow between 8 and 4 if anyone would like to collect one. If year 7 and 12 parents do not have a test to hand tonight, there is no need to worry as you’ll receive blue boxes tomorrow.

Government details – the answers to every question are here:

https://gov.wales/get-rapid-lateral-flow-covid-19-tests-if-you-do-not-have-symptoms

https://gov.wales/schools-coronavirus-guidance

Swap Shop

The Swap Shop will be available for any last-minute panics on the school yard tomorrow afternoon (Friday) between 3:30 and 4:30pm for you to collect second hand uniform. We are aware that there are stock issues with some clothing items at YC Sports, so here is a simple solution for our families. Thanks to the Cyfeillion (PTA) for arranging this at short notice.

We are really looking forward to welcoming year 7 to Bro Edern tomorrow and we would like to encourage you all – parents and pupils – to have a good night’s sleep tonight. There’s no need to worry! In Bro Edern we can solve (almost) everything! The form tutors can’t wait to meet the pupils who will be under their care.

+++++ Summer Blog – 17 July +++++

Hello Everyone

I hope that everyone is well. A VERY LONG blog today – lots of arrangements and updates for you at the end of the year. The photos, videos and fun are right at the end of the blog – keep going!

It’s hard to believe that another year is over. A year ago we welcomed pupils back for the final three weeks of the year. This year has been like a strange voyage of teaching, learning, live learning, self-isolation and various lockdowns and I would like to sincerely thank you as families for joining us every step of the way. It would not have been possible without your total support. I am aware that we have sent some peculiar instructions home at times – no pyjamas in lessons, no pets in lessons … but all these arrangements meant that we were able to continue to provide our pupils with a full timetable of uninterrupted, quality lessons, despite all the challenges thrown at us. Bro Edern teachers are now on holiday. I want to say a big thank you to everyone for all their work at the end of this crazy year. In addition to the live learning, with pupils in and out of self-isolation, overcoming the intricacies of all the assessments was a real challenge. However, the year is finally over. Everyone – both pupils and teachers – ended the year together yesterday. All teachers did 4 twilight sessions last September and October, planning for the possibility that we needed to do some live online learning at some point – thank goodness we planned! We now all need a break.

Positive Pupil

Thanks to our parents once again for all their co-operation this week, after a year 8 pupil received a positive LFT test, followed by a positive PCR test, after being in school on Tuesday. We are sorry that a group of year 8 pupils now need to isolate for the first part of their summer holidays.

Reports on ClassCharts

I know that many of you have discovered your child’s report on ClassCharts. These reports needed to be sent individually by the office, so the process has taken all week, starting with year 12, then 10, 9, 8 and reaching year 7 on Friday. All reports have been sent to the ‘Announcements’ section on ClassCharts, both to the pupil account and to the parental account. If both you and your child have been logged out of ClassCharts, you will need to contact Mr Gary Ellis – please see the bottom of the blog. Mr Ellis will not be able to respond immediately – he is now on holiday.

Exam Results

Although our pupils have already received their results, the official WJEC results arrive in August. Clearly, pupils have not yet received the results of any qualifications regulated in England, so those are to come for some pupils.

Please note that the following need to be in place before pupils can receive their official results:

  • Canteen debts cleared through ParentPay
  • All school iPads returned – and the cables / plugs if still working
  • All school books from any year – returned to school – total amnesty – no questions asked!

Tuesday 10 August
***8:30 – 10:00am – Year 13 results (results under embargo until 8:30)
10:00 – 11:00am – Year 12 results

There will be a Support Clinic during these times where pupils will be able to access advice and any assistance with UCAS and universities.

Thursday 12 August
8:30am – 10:00am – Year 11 results

Details for Reviewing Results of Qualifications from England

Clearly, for any results which have been accredited in England, there will be a process of reviewing the grades, just like we had for the results from Wales. The most pressing matter will be the year 13 results, in order to ensure that these pupils can continue with their future plans. The Decision Making Record for the qualifications from England (only) will be in the results’ envelopes. The window for receiving the Decision Making Record for qualifications from Wales has long closed. If a year 13 pupil wishes for the school to review their grade, Mr Arwel Jones will need to be e-mailed AJones@ysgolbroedern.cardiff.sch.uk by 12pm noon on Thursday 12 August. Any year 13 appeals will be processed immediately, in fairness to the pupils, who may have university places hanging in the balance. Pupils will be informed of the outcome of the grade review by the evening of Friday 13 August.

For year 11 and 12 pupils, there will also be a Decision Making Record for any qualifications from England in the results’ envelopes. If a pupil decides to request a review of the grade, they will need to e-mail Mrs Mererid Thomas, our Exams Officer, MThomas@ysgolbroedern.cardiff.sch.uk by noon on 7 September. We will process any requests in the new school year.

Welcoming Year 7

We are really looking forward to welcoming year 7 to Bro Edern in September. Mr Gary Ellis, our Head of Year 7, has been busy responding to parents who have enquired about their child’s class in September. He has now completed all his responses to parents. Should any further queries arise, he will try to deal with them next week. After that, he will not have access to his e-mail account until late August.

Our Year 7 Form Tutors for September are really looking forward to welcoming their new classes:

  • 7 Hafren 1 – Mr Robbie Donovan – English Teacher
  • 7 Hafren 2 – Miss Ela Rowlands – Geography Teacher
  • 7 Rhymni 1 – Miss Amy Nicholls – PE Teacher
  • 7 Rhymni 2 – Mr Dewi Thomas – Technology Teacher
  • 7 Taf 1 – Miss Grace Goode – Skills’ Teacher
  • 7 Taf 2 – Mrs Haf Matthews – Business Teacher

If anyone missed the meeting for year 6 parents – here is the recording. The Welsh version of the meeting is on the Welsh blog:

All important details for year 6 parents are on our transition website:

Year 7 Chromebooks

And here is the report that appeared in the Western Mail, following our appearance on the #EdTech50 list of schools who make the best use of technology across the UK:

Our COVID-19 Arrangements for September

Thank you very much for helping us to ensure that our pupils followed all COVID rules this year; we really appreciate the co-operation of all pupils in following the rules. There has been a lot of talk about relaxing COVID rules in Wales lately. However, in practice, there is not much change planned for schools for September. The main change is that there will be no need to wear a mask at all times in lessons.

In effect, the new Welsh Government guidance brings us to what we have been doing all year at Bro Edern, namely measuring and tracking contacts rather than sending everyone in a class or bubble home.

If a pupil tests positive for COVID-19, according to the initial September guidelines, the pupil’s close contacts will still have to self-isolate. The 2m stick of doom will therefore continue to be used in the new year to track pupils’ contacts. This means that it will continue to be very important that pupils follow seating plans in their lessons.

Seating Plans

We will keep a record of all seating plans on ClassCharts once again in September. In line with government guidelines, all chairs will face the same way. There will be at least 2m between the teacher’s desk and the pupils. When arriving at a lesson, pupils will disinfect their hands. Pupils are welcome to bring their own bottle of sanitiser, if they wish. Similarly, in order to try and reduce the spread of the virus it will be necessary to continue with the process of hand washing after arriving at school in the morning, and regular hand disinfection during the day.

Disinfection

All schools still have a responsibility to try and reduce the spread of the virus. Because of this, at the end of lessons, pupils will continue to assist their teachers by being involved in the process of disinfecting the chair and table where they have been sitting during the lesson. These are the guidelines for pupils who change classes between lessons.

Toilets

We will continue to use specific toilets for specific years. There will be clear signs on the doors so that pupils understand where they need to go.

One way system

The one way system around the school will continue in order to reduce congestion within the building. Pupils will no longer need to wear a mask at all times in lessons. However, pupils will still need to wear masks on the corridors, when queuing in the canteen, and if they are within 2 metres of a member of staff. Staff will also wear a mask if they come to assist a pupil or are within 2 metres of a pupil.

Beginning and end of the school day

There will be no changes to the beginning and end of the day as many of our pupils travel by bus. The school will be open from 7:00am every morning and your child, if s/he does not catch a school bus, can arrive at Bro Edern at any time after 7:00am.

We expect more new guidance in September and will update you at that time.

Equipment

Government guidelines continue to emphasise that pupils are not allowed to share any equipment which has not been sanitised. This means that it is essential that your child brings a pencil case to school every day. Currently, it would also be helpful if they had a PrittStick or similar. The list of things needed in the pencil case is here:

PE Lessons

The health and wellbeing of our pupils is important to us, and keeping them fit is a priority for our PE Department. We will continue with the same routine next year as the changing rooms will still be out of bounds. On a normal day, pupils will need to wear full school uniform, including school jumpers and black leather school shoes. However, if there is a PE lesson that day, then the pupils will need to arrive in the school’s official PE kit. Most lessons will be outdoors, so a school extra-curricular hoodie would be a good idea. Pupils will need to remember to bring a roll-on deodorant with them for the end of PE lessons. *****Please remember that aerosol deodorants are banned on school premises, in order to protect the health of everyone on site. Remember to pack a roll-on deodorant in the bag. Any aerosol on the school site will be confiscated.

Uniform

We take pride in our great school uniform, which can look so smart. However, over the last few weeks before the summer, some pupils have looked messy as they are wearing half school uniform and half PE kit. One or the other, please, depending on the PE timetable. Joggers or leggings and trainers are not permitted with the top of the school uniform.

Complete school uniform

OR

Complete school PE Kit (PE lesson days only)

We also do not allow tops such as hoodies, gilets, various expensive branded sports tops and other jumpers. Pupils need a school jumper. Also, a coat needs to be a coat. Something in cotton jersey is not a coat, anything resembling a shellsuit is not a coat and anything without sleeves is certainly not a coat. As they are not coats, they are not allowed in school.

We would also like to remind you that rings, bangles or necklaces are not allowed. We permit one pair of earrings, in gold or silver, exactly as shown in the photo below. We also do not allow coloured nails nor false nails.

As shoe shops have now re-opened, there is an opportunity to make sure once again that everyone follows our rules on school shoes. Trainers are not allowed as part of the uniform, and shoes must be plain leather all over, or look like leather.

Suitable shoes:

These are not accepted:

Year 8 and 9 Sets

If your child was in years 7 and 8 this year, you should have received a letter by text this week, outlining the setting arrangements for next year. Pupils have received their timetable at the end of term, so things should be clearer for you now.

Canteen

In September, the canteen will be open between 8:00 and 8:30am for breakfast and then again at lunchtime. At present, the canteen cannot open at break time. Please note that the canteen is cashless – everyone pays by thumb print. Parents pay for meals in advance through ParentPay and pupils are not allowed to get into debt. If there is not enough money on the account, then your child will not be fed. Please note that it can take up to 24 hours for the money to settle on a ParentPay account, so we suggest parents set themselves a weekly alarm on their phone on Saturdays so that the money has enough time to get to the account. The canteen is run by the county as a business. It is not run by the school.

Here’s an idea of the kind of foods available at breakfast time in September:

  • Toast 37p
  • Crumpet 37p
  • Bagel 81p
  • Jam 17p
  • Fruit – Apple / Orange 40p
  • Juice in a carton 69p
  • Bottle of water 83p

At lunchtime, the meal of the day costs £3.05 and this includes a drink. Also there are other foods available, apart from the meal of the day e.g. pasta pots, pizza, panini, baked potatoes etc for various prices.

Free School Meals

If your child is entitled to free school meals, they will receive £3.05 a day automatically on their thumb account. This allows them to have the Meal of the Day, or something else of their choice.

From September, there is a new arrangement for year 7 pupils only, as they transfer from a primary school situation where they had access to a free Breakfast Club. Year 7 pupils claiming free school meals will receive £1 on their account to spend on breakfast between 8 and 8:30am. The £1 has to be spent on breakfast and disappears from the account at the end of the breakfast period – it won’t be available to spend later in the day. If your child is late for whatever reason, unfortunately they will not be able to receive their free breakfast. If your child would like to spend more than £1 at breakfast, then they may spend part of their lunch money on their breakfast. However, that means they will not have enough money to have the official Meal of the Day at lunchtime, and will need to choose something cheaper.

To summarise – year 7 only – £1 plus lunch money can be used at breakfast – breakfast money CANNOT be used at lunch.

If you are currently not in receipt of free school meals, but are entitled to them, you must apply to the county:

Lunchtimes

Due to the continued social distancing rules for schools, pupils will still need different lunchtimes, in order to reduce the numbers wandering the site and going to the canteen. The intention, therefore, is to continue to split lesson 4, with pupils in years 8 and 9 following the daily pattern 1, 2, 3, lunch, 4, 5, 6. Their lunch will be at 11:53am. Year 7, 10 and 11 pupils will follow the pattern 1, 2, 3, 4, lunch, 5, 6, so their lunch will be at 12:46pm.

Pupils who bring a packed lunch will continue to eat straight away in their lesson 4 classroom with their lesson 4 teacher and will not join the canteen queue. Food cannot leave the designated classroom nor the canteen. Canteen food must be eaten in the canteen and sandwiches and packed lunches from home must be eaten in the appropriate classrooms. Groups of canteen / sandwich friends may not eat together, but can meet up straight afterwards. It is essential that pupils do not eat while wandering – we will face problems with rats, seagulls and foxes!

Homework Club

The Homework Club will continue in September, but due to the current need to keep year groups apart, pupils can only attend the club one night a week.

  • Year 7 Monday until 5pm
  • Year 8 Tuesday until 5pm
  • Year 9 Wednesday until 5pm
  • Year 10 Thursday until 5pm
  • Year 11 Friday until 4:30pm

The Homework Club is supervised by our Learning Coaches and pupils who attend have full access to the school network.

Extra curricular activities

Extra-curricular activities will resume in September, but once again we will need to keep pupils from different year groups apart. Details to follow in September.

Buses

The same buses will continue next year: 810, 811, 812 and 815. The route for the 815 has been extended and this should really help pupils who live in and around Glan Morfa’s catchment area.

Here’s the exact message we received from the county about the 815:

It will pick up on South Park Road by Grosvenor Square bus stop and then up Muirton Road, Tweedsmuir Road and Pengam Road to Rover Way picking up at local bus stops on the way. It will then stop picking up pupils as it travels to St Mellons to pick up pupils. The section of the route marked with a dotted line will not officially be picking up pupils. NAT haven’t finalised the pick up times yet so I don’t know what time pick up in Splott and Tremorfa will be just yet but it will be approx. 20 minutes before St Mellons so about 7:20am would be a good guesstimate.

Her yr Haf

Once again this year we will be holding Her yr Haf, our annual reading competition. Lots of pupils really enjoyed this challenge last year, winning Joe’s vouchers to spend on ice cream. As your child completes their latest book, we ask you to note the details here, in order to keep track:

Year 6 pupils also have a chart to fill in and their form tutors are really looking forward to collecting these on their first day of term in September – please remember to pack them on the first Friday! If you have already lost the chart or it has not surfaced from your child’s bag, here is a copy for you to see:

Remember to tweet a photo of your reading books to @BroEdern with the hashtag #HerYrHafBE … #joio

Cardiff libraries have a fantastic collection of books in Welsh and English and also eBooks which can be used online. Using a library is free of charge, once you have registered. All details about Cardiff libraries are available here – please note there are specific COVID rulings including pre-booking a slot to visit: https://cardiffhubs.co.uk/library-services/

Siop Cant a Mil

If you would like to buy some Welsh language books, please remember the extensive collection at Cant a Mil, 100 Whitchurch Road. They are not open on Sundays nor Mondays, but every other day they are open from 9:30am to 5:30pm. Their website is https://cantamil.com their number is 029 2021 2474 or you can e-mail jo@cantamil.com

Our #HerYrHafBE winners last year were Leisa and Elin – here they are with their vouchers!

Antur i Amlwch

Since Wednesday, our Antur i Amlwch walking / running / cycling challenge is officially over, but you as families are clearly welcome to continue over the summer if you have not yet finished the distance. You will remember that the task was to complete the 282km or 175 miles to Amlwch since Easter.

We would now like to see who has completed the challenge in order to congratulate them in September. Many staff are planning to finish the mileage over the summer due to the time-consuming assessments. Once your child has completed the km or miles please fill in this simple form and send it back to us:

We gather that Steffan King from 7Hafren2 has completed 1,030 miles on his bike as part of the challenge – he has reached Amlwch several times! I wonder if anyone, including our PE staff, has covered a similar distance? Huge congratulations to Steffan on his achievement – llongyfarchiadau mawr!

Old uniform and boots

When buying new uniform or rugby boots over the summer, please do not throw away the old ones. The Cyfeillion (PTA) collect second-hand uniform – please send any old uniform via your child to Mrs Frost or leave it at reception. The PE Department also collects old rugby / football boots. Please send them in to Mr Milsom in September.

Staffing Changes

There are not many staffing changes this year, but we would like to thank some members of staff who are leaving.

Miss Jane Davies from our office is retiring this summer. Jane joined us in September 2013 and she has been an integral part of Bro Edern’s growth since we reached our permanent site. We are very grateful for everything that she has done on behalf of the Bro Edern family over the years. Happy retirement!

Mr Gruffydd Davies (Maths) is returning to his roots, so we wish him well at Ysgol Gyfun Llangynwyd. Mrs Victoria Edwards (Maths and Humanities), who has been here on a one-year contract, is returning to acting, so we hope to see her back on S4C and on stage soon, and on supply at Bro Edern when she’s not acting. Miss Megan Sawyer from the office is moving on to work with Legal and General – we must thank her for dealing with a number of key issues recently, including the LFT blue boxes! Mr Harri Jones, who has been covering in the Science Department, is returning to his medical studies. Good luck to them all.

Some of our ALN assistants are also leaving us. Iwan James and Ieuan Priday, both former pupils, have completed their gap year and are now off to university. Thanks to both for spending an additional year at Bro Edern, helping us. Suan John and Tom Ellis also leave us after a period of working closely with some of the Cwtsh pupils. Thank you all.

We look forward to welcoming some new staff members in September:

  • Esther Jenkins (Maths)
  • Amy Matthews (Maths)
  • Dylan Morgan (Rugby Officer)
  • Gwen Hern (Office)
  • Siân Davies will move from reception to start her duties as our Attendance Officer.

Gŵyl yr Haf – Our Summer Festival

Despite everything thrown at us over the last week, we still managed to host a virtual Eisteddfod and our Mabolgampau (Sports’ Day) in bubbles, giving our pupils some great experiences.

Mabolgampau Results:

  • 🥇1st 🔴 Rhymni 396
  • 🥈2nd 🟢 Hafren 376
  • 🥉3rd 🔵 Taf 349

Several pupils played a starring role during the week, but Mathew Thomas was the athlete who scored the most mabolgampau points, with 36 individual points for Hafren! Ardderchog Mathew!

Eisteddfod

Thanks to everyone who competed in our virtual Eisteddfod. Those pupils who completed numerous homework tasks have once again made the difference to the house points. A school Eisteddfod is always won and lost with the homework competitions!

Eisteddfod Final Result:

  • 🥇1st 🟢 Hafren 1171
  • 🥈2nd 🔵 Taf 1165
  • 🥉3rd 🔴 Rhymni 873

This week it was great to see someone sitting once again in our beautiful Eisteddfod chair, designed and made during the first lockdown by Mrs Bethan Frost, and using the flow of the river Rhymney, which flows locally into the sea, as her inspiration. Congratulations to Martha Isaac of year 10 on her achievement! In the English Prize, Laani-Bleu Mann from year 12 was the winner, so many congratulations to her too on some fantastic praise for her work.

You can catch up with the week’s Eisteddfod activity by watching this series of videos:

After you have listened to the above adjudications, please make sure you listen to Jake Collins from year 12 with his winning performance for the Music Prize. His piano playing is truly great:

And here are the final results, as announced to pupils on Friday:

Therefore, we now have final results, with the Eisteddfod and Mabolgampau scores combined:

  • 🥇1st 🟢 Hafren 1547
  • 🥈2nd 🔵 Taf 1514
  • 🥉3rd 🔴 Rhymni 1269

Euros Results

After Poland, or 8Taf1, won the year 8 Euros last week, it was Year 7’s turn this week. Despite the fact that Wales or 7Hafren2, reached the Year 7 Euros final here at Bro Edern, the result was the same as the real Euros, with Italy winning. No extra time nor penalty kicks were needed here at Bro Edern, because, Italy or 7 Rhymni2 won 3-1. As you can see, the Bro Edern Azzurri wear red, the colour of Rhymni, with Wales in green, Hafren’s colour. Llongyfarchiadau!

F1 Results

There has been a lot of excitement in the Technology Block recently, with our F1 teams racing their cars in the Welsh final of the F1 schools’ competition. Huge congratulations to the three teams and their teacher Mr Dewi Thomas. It has meant a lot of planning, but all three teams from Bro Edern have reached the UK final in the new academic year.

If you have an hour and a half to spare, the official coverage of the competition is really great:

The Bro Edern highlights in the above video:

  • 6’00″ introduction to all teams
  • 44’30” our teams, Imperium and Hypernova race against each other
  • 1:26’00” our team Astra races

Election of Head Prefects

Following our recent election, we are pleased to announce that our Head Prefects for the coming year are Gwion Rhisiart, Molly Spivey and Rhys Thomas. Their deputies will be Glesni Beasley and Laani-Bleu Mann. Thanks to them all in advance for their work in supporting all sorts of activities here at Bro Edern.

Thank you for all your patience in reading yet another long blog, but I’m sure you all agree that a lot has happened recently at Bro Edern, and that it is important that our plans for September are clear to everyone. Thanks again for your unconditional support over a year which has been extremely challenging for us as a school, and for you as families.

We look forward to welcoming Bro Edern pupils back to school in September and seeing them benefit fully from every opportunity to succeed with the great education we as a school have to offer them.

Best wishes over the summer – enjoy the sun while it’s here!

Annwyl Bawb

Gobeithio bod pawb yn iawn. Blog HIR IAWN heddiw – llawer o drefniadau a diweddariadau i chi ar ddiwedd blwyddyn! Mae’r lluniau, y fideos a’r hwyl reit ar ddiwedd y blog – cadwch fynd!

Anodd credu bod blwyddyn arall ar ben. Flwyddyn nôl roedden ni wedi croesawu disgyblion nôl am dair wythnos olaf y flwyddyn. Eleni rydyn ni wedi bod ar daith sydd wedi bod yn flwyddyn o ddysgu, addysgu, dysgu byw, hunanynysu a chyfnodau clo amrywiol ac hoffwn ddiolch yn ddiffuant i chi fel teuluoedd am ddod gyda ni bob cam o’r ffordd. Ni fyddai wedi bod yn bosibl heb eich cefnogaeth lwyr, ac rwy’n ymwybodol ein bod wedi anfon rhai cyfarwyddiadau gwirion ar hyd yr amser – dim pyjamas mewn gwersi, dim anifeiliaid anwes mewn gwersi … ond mae’r holl drefniadau rhyfedd wedi golygu ein bod wedi gallu parhau i roi gwersi di-dor o safon i’n disgyblion, er gwaethaf pawb a phopeth. Mae athrawon Bro Edern bellach ar wyliau. Hoffwn ddiolch yn fawr iawn i bawb am eu holl waith eleni, ar ddiwedd blwyddyn hollol wallgof. Ar ben y cyfnodau dysgu byw a disgyblion mewn a mas yn hunanynysu, roedd goresgyn holl gymhlethdodau’r cyfnod asesiadau’n dipyn o her. Ond, mae’r flwyddyn ar ben, o’r diwedd! Gorffennodd pawb – yn ddisgyblion ac athrawon – gyda’i gilydd ddoe. Gwnaethon ni 4 noson hwyrnos ym mis Medi a Hydref diwethaf, yn paratoi ar gyfer unrhyw ddysgu byw ar-lein a allai godi – diolch byth i ni wneud hynny! Mae pawb nawr angen brêc!

Disgybl Positif

Diolch i’n rhieni unwaith eto am bob cydweithrediad yr wythnos hon, ar ôl i ddisgybl blwyddyn 8 dderbyn prawf LFT positif, ac yna prawf PCR positif, ar ôl bod yn yr ysgol ddydd Mawrth. Rydyn ni’n flin bod angen i griw o ddisgyblion blwyddyn 8 hunanynysu ar gyfer cyfnod cyntaf gwyliau’r haf.

Rwy’n gwybod bod llawer ohonoch wedi darganfod adroddiad eich plentyn ar ClassCharts erbyn hyn. Mae’r adroddiadau hyn angen cael eu hanfon fesul un gan y swyddfa, felly mae’r broses wedi cymryd drwy’r wythnos, gan ddechrau gyda blwyddyn 12, yna 10, 9, 8 a chyrraedd blwyddyn 7 ddydd Gwener. Ni fydd Mr Ellis yn medru ymateb yn syth – mae e nawr ar wyliau.

Canlyniadau Arholiadau

Er i’n disgyblion dderbyn eu canlyniadau eisoes, mae’r canlyniadau swyddogol gan CBAC yn cyrraedd ym mis Awst. Yn amlwg, nid yw disgyblion eto wedi derbyn canlyniadau eu cymwysterau sy’n cael eu rheoleiddio yn Lloegr, felly mae hynny i ddod ar gyfer rhai disgyblion.

Noder bod angen i’r canlynol fod yn eu lle cyn i’r disgyblion fedru derbyn eu canlyniadau swyddogol:

  • Dyledion y ffreutur wedi’u clirio drwy ParentPay
  • Pob iPad ysgol wedi dychwelyd – a’r cables / plygiau os ydyn nhw dal yn gweithio
  • Pob llyfr ysgol – o unrhyw flwyddyn – wedi dychwelyd i’r ysgol – amnest llwyr – no questions asked!

Dydd Mawrth 10 Awst

Bydd Clinig Cefnogi ar gyfer y cyfnodau hyn lle bydd disgyblion yn gallu cael cyngor ac unrhyw gymorth gydag UCAS a phrifysgolion.

Dydd Iau 12 Awst
8:30am – 10:00am – Canlyniadau Blwyddyn 11

Manylion am Adolygu Canlyniadau Cymwysterau Lloegr

Yn amlwg, ar gyfer y canlyniadau sydd wedi cael eu hachredu yn Lloegr, bydd proses o adolygu’r radd, yn union fel canlyniadau Cymru. Y mater brys yw canlyniadau blwyddyn 13, er mwyn sicrhau eu bod yn gallu parhau gyda’u cynlluniau ar gyfer y dyfodol. Bydd y Cofnod Gwneud Penderfyniad ar gyfer cymwysterau Lloegr (yn unig) yn yr amlen ganlyniadau. Mae’r ffenest ar gyfer derbyn Cofnod Gwneud Penderfyniadau cymwysterau Cymru wedi hen gau. Os yw disgybl blwyddyn 13 yn dymuno adolygiad o’r radd gan yr ysgol, bydd angen e-bostio Mr Arwel Jones AJones@ysgolbroedern.cardiff.sch.uk erbyn 12pm canol dydd ar ddydd Iau 12 Awst. Bydd unrhyw apeliadau blwyddyn 13 yn cael eu prosesu’n syth, er tegwch i’r disgyblion, sydd o bosibl â llefydd prifysgol yn y fantol. Bydd disgyblion yn cael clywed canlyniad yr adolygiad erbyn nos Wener 13 Awst.

Ar gyfer disgyblion blwyddyn 11 a 12, bydd Cofnod Gwneud Penderfyniad ar gyfer cymwysterau Lloegr hefyd yn yr amlenni canlyniadau. Os yw disgybl yn penderfynu gofyn am adolygiad o’r radd bydd angen e-bostio Mrs Mererid Thomas ein Swyddog Arholiadau MThomas@ysgolbroedern.cardiff.sch.uk erbyn canol dydd 7 Medi. Byddwn yn prosesu unrhyw geisiadau yn y flwyddyn ysgol newydd.

Croesawu Blwyddyn 7

Rydyn ni’n edrych ymlaen yn fawr iawn at groesawu blwyddyn 7 atom ym mis Medi. Mae Mr Gary Ellis, sef pennaeth blwyddyn 7, wedi bod yn brysur yn ymateb i rieni sydd wedi ysgrifennu ato’n holi am ddosbarth eu plentyn ym mis Medi. Mae e nawr wedi cwblhau ei holl ymatebion at rieni. Os daw unrhyw ymholiadau pellach, bydd e’n ceisio delio gyda nhw wythnos nesaf. Wedi hynny, ni fydd ganddo fynediad at ei gyfrif e-bost tan ddiwedd mis Awst.

Mae’r holl fanylion pwysig i rieni blwyddyn 6 ar ein gwefan Pontio:

Chromebooks Blwyddyn 7

Fel y gwyddoch mae’n siwr, mae Bro Edern yn ysgol arloesi digidol 1:1 sydd wedi gweithio gydag un ddyfais i bob disgybl ers 2013. Rydym ni’n disgwyl i Chromebooks blwyddyn 7 gyrraedd o’r sir reit ar ddechrau mis Medi, felly bydd noson i rieni gasglu’r Chromebooks ar nos Iau 9 Medi 2021. Unwaith i’ch plentyn ddechrau ym Mro Edern, byddwn yn anfon cytundebau ar gyfer disgyblion a rhieni a bydd angen cyfrannu tuag at yr yswiriant. Byddwch yn derbyn y Chromebook am ddim ond byddwch angen talu £50 tuag at yr yswiriant mewn taliad neu randaliadau ar ParentPay. Bydd hyn yn cael ei osod i fyny i chi ym mis Medi. Ni fydd modd i chi gasglu’r Chromebook oni bai bod popeth wedi cael ei gyflawni, sef y cytundebau i gyd a’r taliad cychwynnol o leiafswm o £10 ar gyfer yr yswiriant. Eleni, bydd y rhieni angen dod â chasyn trwchus sy’n amddiffyn y Chromebook i’r cyfarfod gyda nhw, er mwyn mynd â’r Chromebook adref. Bydd yn rhaid i’r disgyblion gario’r Chromebook yn y casyn hwn bob amser. Bydd manylion llawn am y casyn sydd angen yn dilyn ddechrau mis Medi pan fyddwn yn gweld union faint a model y Chromebooks.

Os nad yw rhieni newydd yn gyfarwydd â gwaith digidol Bro Edern, dyma’r adroddiad arfer dda yn sgil ymweliad Estyn yn 2017:

A dyma’r adroddiad oedd yn y Western Mail, yn sôn am y ffaith i ni ymddangos ar restr #EdTech50 o’r ysgolion sy’n gwneud y defnydd gorau o dechnoleg mewn ysgolion ledled Prydain:

Trefniadau COVID-19 yr ysgol ym mis Medi

Diolch yn fawr iawn i chi am ein cynorthwyo i sicrhau fod y disgyblion yn dilyn y drefn ar gyfer COVID eleni; rydyn ni’n gwerthfawrogi’n fawr ein bod wedi cael cydweithrediad gan bob disgybl wrth ddilyn y rheolau. Mae llawer o sôn wedi bod am lacio rheolau COVID Cymru yn ddiweddar. Yn ymarferol, mewn ysgolion, nid oes cymaint â hynny o newid erbyn mis Medi. Y prif newid yw nad oes angen gwisgo mwgwd drwy’r adeg mewn gwersi.

I bob pwrpas, mae’r canllawiau newydd gan y llywodraeth yn dod â ni at yr hyn rydyn ni wedi’i wneud ym Mro Edern drwy’r flwyddyn, sef mesur ac olrhain cysylltiadau yn hytrach nag anfon pawb mewn dosbarth neu swigen adref.

Os oes disgybl yn profi’n bositif ar gyfer COVID-19 yna, yn ôl y canllawiau ar hyn o bryd, bydd cysylltiadau agos y disgybl yn parhau i orfod hunan ynysu. Bydd y 2m stick of doom felly’n parhau i orfod cael ei ddefnyddio yn y flwyddyn newydd er mwyn olrhain cysylltiadau. Bydd yn bwysig iawn fod disgyblion felly’n parhau i ddilyn cynlluniau eistedd yn eu gwersi.

Cynlluniau Eistedd

Byddwn yn cadw cofnod o’r cynlluniau eistedd ar ClassCharts unwaith eto. Yn unol â chanllawiau’r llywodraeth, bydd y cadeiriau yn wynebu’r un ffordd. Bydd o leiaf 2m rhwng desg yr athro a’r disgyblion. Wrth gyrraedd gwers, bydd disgyblion yn diheintio’u dwylo. Mae croeso i ddisgyblion ddod â’u potel eu hunain, os ydyn nhw’n dymuno. Yn yr un modd, er mwyn ceisio lleihau lledaeniad y feirws bydd angen parhau gyda’r broses o olchi dwylo ar ôl cyrraedd yr ysgol yn y bore, a diheintio dwylo’n rheolaidd yn ystod y dydd.

Diheintio

Mae cyfrifoldeb ar bob ysgol i barhau i geisio lleihau lledaeniad y feirws. Oherwydd hyn, ar ddiwedd gwersi, bydd disgyblion yn parhau i gynorthwyo’u hathrawon drwy fod yn rhan o’r broses o ddiheintio’r gadair a’r bwrdd ble maen nhw wedi bod yn eistedd yn ystod y wers. Dyma yw’r canllawiau ar gyfer disgyblion sy’n newid dosbarthiadau o hyd.

Tai bach

Byddwn yn parhau i ddefnyddio toiledau penodol ar gyfer blynyddoedd penodol.

Ni fydd bellach angen i ddisgyblion wisgo mwgwd ar bob achlysur mewn gwers. Er hynny, bydd angen i ddisgyblion barhau i wisgo mygydau ar y coridorau, wrth giwio yn y ffreutur, ac os y byddant o fewn 2 fetr i aelod o staff. Bydd staff hefyd yn gwisgo mwgwd os ydynt yn dod i gynorthwyo disgybl ac o fewn 2 fetr i’r disgybl.

Dechrau a diwedd y dydd

Ni fydd unrhyw newid i ddechrau a diwedd y dydd gan fod nifer o’n disgyblion yn teithio i’r ysgol ar fws. Bydd yr ysgol yn agored o 7:00am ymlaen bob bore a gall eich plentyn, os nad yw’n dal bws ysgol, gyrraedd Bro Edern unrhyw bryd o’r amser yma ymlaen.

Rydyn ni’n disgwyl mwy o ganllawiau newydd erbyn mis Medi a byddwn yn eich diweddaru bryd hynny.

Offer

Mae canllawiau’r llywodraeth yn parhau i esbonio nad yw disgyblion yn cael rhannu unrhyw offer sydd heb ei ddiheintio. Golyga hyn ei bod yn hanfodol fod eich plentyn yn dod â chas pensil i’r ysgol bob dydd. Ar hyn o bryd, buasai hefyd o gymorth petai PrittStick neu debyg ganddynt. Mae’r rhestr offer angenrheidiol ar gyfer y cas pensil yma:

Gwersi Add Gorff

Mae iechyd a lles ein disgyblion yn bwysig i ni, ac mae eu cadw’n heini’n flaenoriaeth i’r Adran Addysg Gorfforol. Byddwn yn dychwelyd at yr un drefn y flwyddyn nesaf am na fydd modd defnyddio’r ystafelloedd newid o hyd. Yn arferol, bydd disgyblion angen gwisgo gwisg ysgol lawn ‘r ysgol, gan gynnwys siwmperi ysgol ac esgidiau ysgol duon lledr. Ond, os oes gwers Addysg Gorfforol y diwrnod hwnnw, yna bydd angen dod i’r ysgol yng nghit Add Gorff swyddogol yr ysgol am na fydd modd newid. Bydd mwyafrif y gwersi y tu allan, felly byddai hoodie allgyrsiol yr ysgol yn syniad da. Bydd disgyblion angen cofio dod â deodorant roll-on gyda nhw ar gyfer diwedd gwersi Add Gorff. *****Cofiwch na chaniateir defnyddio deodorant aerosol ar dir yr ysgol bellach, er mwyn i ni amddiffyn iechyd pawb ar y safle. Cofiwch bacio deodorant roll on yn y bag. Bydd unrhyw aerosol ar safle’r ysgol yn cael eu cadw.

Gwisg

Rydym yn ymfalchïo yn ein gwisg ysgol braf, sydd yn gallu edrych mor smart. Fodd bynnag, dros yr wythnosau diwethaf cyn yr haf, mae rhai disgyblion wedi edrych yn flêr am eu bod yn gwisgo hanner gwisg ysgol a hanner cit Add Gorff. Un neu’r llall, os gwelwch yn dda, yn dibynnu ar yr amserlen Add Gorff. Ni chaniateir joggers neu leggings a thrainers gyda thop y wisg ysgol.

Gwisg ysgol i gyd

NEU

Cit Add Gorff i gyd (diwrnodau Add Gorff yn unig)

Ni chaniateir chwaith dopiau megis hoodies, gilets, topiau chwaraeon o wahanol frandiau drud a siwmperi eraill. Mae angen siwmper ysgol ar ddisgyblion. Ac mae cot angen bod yn got. Nid yw defnydd jersi yn got, nid yw unrhyw beth sy’n ymdebygu i shellsuit yn got nac ychwaith unrhyw beth sydd heb freichiau. Nid cotiau yw’r rhain, felly ni chaniateir iddynt fod yn yr ysgol.

Carwn eich atgoffa ni chaniateir modrwyon, brechledau na mwclis. Un pâr o glustdlysau fel y llun a ganiateir yn unig. Nid ydym ychwaith yn caniatáu lliw ar yr ewinedd, nac ewinedd ffug.

Nawr bod siopau esgidiau wedi ail agor, mae cyfle i sicrhau hefyd fod pawb yn dilyn y rheolau o ran esgidiau ysgol. Ni chaniateir trainers fel rhan o’r wisg, a rhaid i esgidiau fod yn lledr i gyd, neu’n edrych fel lledr.

Esgidiau addas:

Nid yw’r rhain yn addas:

Setiau Blwyddyn 8 a 9

Os yw eich plentyn wedi bod ym mlwyddyn 7 ac 8, dylsech fod wedi derbyn llythyr ar neges destun yr wythnos hon, yn amlinellu’r trefniadau setio ar gyfer y flwyddyn nesaf. Mae disgyblion wedi derbyn eu hamserlen ar ddiwedd y tymor, felly dylai pethau fod yn egulrach i chi nawr.

Y Ffreutur

Ym mis Medi, bydd y ffreutur ar agor rhwng 8:00 a 8:30am ar gyfer brecwast ac yna eto amser cinio. Ar hyn o bryd, ni all y ffreutur agor amser egwyl. Noder nad yw’r ffreutur yn derbyn arian o gwbl – mae pawb yn talu drwy eu bawd. Mae rhieni’n talu drwy ParentPay ac ni chaniateir i ddisgyblion fynd i ddyled. Os nad oes digon o arian ar y cyfrif, yna ni fydd eich plentyn yn cael ei fwydo. Noder y gall gymryd hyd at 24 awr i’r arian setlo ar y cyfrif ParentPay, felly rydyn ni’n awgrymu bod rhieni’n gosod larwm wythnosol i’w hunain ar eu ffôn ar ddydd Sadwrn er mwyn i’r arian gael digon o amser i gyrraedd y cyfrif. Mae’r ffreutur yn cael ei redeg gan y sir fel busnes. Ni chaiff ei redeg gan yr ysgol.

Dyma syniad i chi o’r math o fwydydd a fydd ar gael amser brecwast ym mis Medi:

  • Tost 37c
  • Crumpet 37c
  • Bagel 81c
  • Jam 17c
  • Ffrwyth – Afal / Oren 40c
  • Sudd mewn carton 69c
  • Potel o ddŵr 83c

Amser cinio mae pryd y dydd yn costio £3.05 ac mae hwn yn cynnwys diod. Hefyd mae bwydydd heblaw am bryd y dydd ar gael e.e. potiau pasta, pizza, panini, tatws drwy’u crwyn am wahanol brisiau.

Prydau Ysgol am Ddim

Os yw eich plentyn yn hawlio prydau ysgol am ddim, byddant yn derbyn £3.05 y dydd yn awtomatig ar gyfrif eu bawd. Mae hwn yn caniatáu iddynt gael pryd y dydd, neu rywbeth arall o’u dewis.

O fis Medi, mae trefniant newydd ar gyfer disgyblion blwyddyn 7 yn unig, wrth iddynt drosglwyddo o sefyllfa yn y cynradd ble roedd ganddynt fynediad at Glwb Brecwast am ddim. Bydd disgyblion Blwyddyn 7 sy’n hawlio prydau ysgol am ddim yn derbyn £1 ar eu cyfrif i’w wario ar frecwast rhwng 8 a 8:30am. Mae’r £1 yn gorfod cael ei wario ar frecwast ac mae’n diflannu o’r cyfrif ar ddiwedd y cyfnod brecwast – ni fydd ar gael i’w wario’n hwyrach yn y dydd. Os yw eich plentyn yn hwyr am ba reswm bynnag, yn anffodus ni fydd modd iddynt dderbyn eu brecwast am ddim. Os hoffai eich plentyn wario mwy na £1 amser brecwast, yna bydd hi’n bosibl iddynt wario rhan o’u harian cinio ar eu brecwast. Fodd bynnag, mae hynny’n golygu na fydd ganddynt ddigon o arian i gael Pryd y Dydd amser cinio, a bydd angen iddynt ddewis rhywbeth rhatach.

I grynhoi – blwyddyn 7 yn unig – gellir defnyddio’r £1 + arian cinio amser brecwast – NI ELLIR defnyddio arian brecwast amser cinio.

Os nad ydych chi’n derbyn prydau ysgol am ddim ar hyn o bryd, ond mae gennych hawl iddynt, mae modd gwneud cais i’r sir:

Amseroedd Cinio

Oherwydd y rheolau pellter cymdeithasol sy’n parhau, bydd angen amser cinio gwahanol ar gyfer disgyblion, er mwyn lleihau ar y niferoedd sy’n crwydro’r safle ac yn mynd i’r ffreutur. Y bwriad, felly, yw parhau i rannu gwers 4 yn ddau, gyda disgyblion blwyddyn 8 a 9 yn dilyn y drefn gwers 1, 2, 3, cinio, 4, 5, 6. Bydd eu cinio am 11:53am. Bydd disgyblion blwyddyn 7,10 ac 11 yn dilyn y drefn 1, 2, 3 ,4, cinio, 5, 6, felly bydd eu cinio nhw am 12:46pm.

Bydd disgyblion sy’n dod â phecyn cinio’n parhau i fwyta’n syth yn ystafell ddosbarth gwers 4 gydag athro/awes gwers 4 ac ni fyddant yn rhan o giw y ffreutur. Ni all bwyd adael yr ystafell ddosbarth dan sylw na’r ffreutur. Rhaid i fwyd y ffreutur gael ei fwyta yn y ffreutur a brechdanau a phecynnau bwyd o gartref gael eu bwyta yn yr ystafelloedd dosbarth priodol. Ni chaiff criwiau o ffrindiau ffreutur / brechdanau fwyta gyda’i gilydd ond gallant gwrdd yn syth wedi bwyta. Mae’n hanfodol nad yw disgyblion yn bwyta wrth grwydro – byddwn ni’n wynebu llygod mawr, gwylanod a llwynogod!

Clwb Gwaith Cartref

Bydd y Clwb Gwaith Cartref yn parhau ym mis Medi, ond oherwydd yr angen i ni gadw blynyddoedd ar wahân, dim ond un noson yr wythnos all disgyblion o bob blwyddyn fynychu’r clwb ar hyn o bryd.

  • Blwyddyn 7 Nos Lun tan 5pm
  • Blwyddyn 8 Nos Fawrth tan 5pm
  • Blwyddyn 9 Nos Fercher tan 5pm
  • Blwyddyn 10 Nos Iau tan 5pm
  • Blwyddyn 11 Nos Wener tan 4:30pm

Mae’r Clwb Gwaith Cartref yn cael ei arolygu gan yr Anogwyr Dysgu a bydd mynediad llawn at rwydwaith yr ysgol gan y disgyblion sy’n mynychu.

Allgyrsiol

Bydd gweithgareddau allgyrsiol yn parhau ym mis Medi, ond unwaith eto bydd angen i ni gadw disgyblion o wahanol flynyddoedd ar wahân. Cewch fwy o wybodaeth ym mis Medi.

Bysiau

Bydd yr un bysiau’n parhau y flwyddyn nesaf: 810, 811, 812 ac 815. Mae route yr 815 wedi ymestyn a dylai hwn fod o gymorth nawr i ddisgyblion dalgylch Glan Morfa.

Dyma’r union neges gan y sir:

Her yr Haf

Unwaith eto eleni, rydyn ni’n cynnal Her yr Haf, sef ein her ddarllen flynyddol. Cafodd llawer o ddisgyblion gryn dipyn o hwyl ar yr her y llynedd, gan ennill talebau Joe’s i wario ar hufen iâ. Wrth i’ch plentyn gwblhau eu llyfr diweddaraf, gofynnwn i chi nodi’r manylion yma:

Mae gan ddisgyblion blwyddyn 6 siart i’w llenwi ac mae eu hathrawon cofrestru’n edrych ymlaen yn fawr at gasglu’r rhain ar ddiwrnod cyntaf y tymor ym mis Medi – cofiwch eu pacio ar y dydd Gwener cyntaf! Os ydych chi wedi colli’ch siart neu dyw e ddim wedi ymddangos o fag ysgol eich plentyn, dyma gopi i chi weld:

Mae gan lyfrgelloedd Caerdydd gasgliad gwych o lyfrau yn y Gymraeg a’r Saesneg ac hefyd eLyfrau y gellir eu defnyddio ar-lein. Mae defnyddio llyfrgell yn rhad ac am ddim, unwaith y byddwch wedi cofrestru. Mae’r holl fanylion am lyfrgelloedd Caerdydd ar gael yma – nodwch fod rheolau COVID yn golygu bod angen trefnu slot ymlaen llaw i ymweld:

Siop Cant a Mil

Os am brynu llyfrau Cymraeg, yna cofiwch am y casgliad eang sydd gan Siop Cant a Mil, 100 Whitchurch Road. Nid ydynt ar agor ar ddydd Sul na dydd Llun, ond bob diwrnod arall maen nhw ar agor rhwng 9:30am a 5:30pm. Eu gwefan yw https://cantamil.com eu rhif yw 029 2021 2474 neu e-bostiwch jo@cantamil.com

Cofiwch drydar llun i @BroEdern gyda’r hashnod #HerYrHafBE … #joio

Y llynedd llwyddodd Leisa ac Elin i ddod i’r brig – dyma nhw gyda’u talebau!

Antur i Amlwch

Ers dydd Mercher mae’r Antur i Amlwch ar ben yn swyddogol, ond yn amlwg mae croeso i chi a’ch plant barhau dros yr haf os nad ydych eto wedi cwblhau’r pellter. Fe gofiwch mai’r dasg oedd cerdded, rhedeg neu seiclo’r 282km neu’r 175 milltir i Amlwch ers y Pasg.

Erbyn hyn, mae angen i ni weld pwy sydd wedi cwblhau’r her er mwyn eu llongyfarch ym mis Medi. Mae nifer o staff yn bwriadu gorffen y milltiroedd dros yr haf am fod y cyfnod diweddar dros yr asesiadau wedi bod mor brysur. Unwaith i’ch plentyn gwblhau’r km neu’r milltiroedd yna llenwch y ffurflen a’i hanfon nôl atom:

Rydyn ni’n clywed bod Steffan King o 7Hafren2 wedi cwblhau 1,030 milltir ar ei feic fel rhan o’r her – mae wedi cyrraedd Amlwch sawl gwaith! Sgwn i a oes unrhyw un, gan gynnwys staff yr Adran Add Gorff wedi gwneud pellter tebyg? Llongyfarchiadau enfawr i ti ar dy gamp, Steffan!

Hen wisg ysgol a boots

Wrth brynu gwisg neu boots rygbi newydd dros yr haf, cais i chi beidio â thaflu’r hen rai. Mae’r Cyfeillion yn casglu gwisg ail law – dewch ag unrhyw ddillad drwy law eich plentyn ar Mrs Frost neu i’r dderbynfa. Hefyd, mae’r Adran Add Gorff yn casgu hen boots rygbi / pêl-droed. Newidiadau Staffio

Nid oes llawer o fynd a dod eleni, ond hoffem ddiolch i rai aelodau o staff sy’n gadael.

Mae Miss Jane Davies yn y swyddfa’n ymddeol yr haf hwn. Ymunodd Jane gyda ni ym mis Medi 2013 felly mae hi wedi bod yn rhan hanfodol o dwf Bro Edern ers i ni gyrraedd ein safle barhaol. Mawr yw ein diolch am bopeth mae hi wedi’i wneud dros deulu Bro Edern ar hyd y blynyddoedd. Ymddeoliad hapus!

Mae Mr Gruffydd Davies (Maths) yn ddychwelyd i’w filltir sgwâr, felly pob hwyl yn Ysgol Gyfun Llangynwyd. Mae Mrs Victoria Edwards (Maths a Dyniaethau), sydd wedi bod ar gytundeb blwyddyn, yn dychwelyd i fyd actio, felly gobeithiwn ei gweld nôl ar S4C ac ar lwyfan cyn hir, gyda chyfnodau nôl gyda ni’n cyflenwi, gobeithio. Mae Miss Megan Sawyer yn y swyddfa’n symud ymlaen i weithio gyda Legal and General – diolch iddi am ddeilio gan nifer o faterion allweddol gan gynnwys y profion COVID yn y bocsys glas! Mae Mr Harri Jones, sydd wedi bod yn llenwi yn yr Adran Wyddoniaeth yn dychwelyd i’w astudiaethau meddygol. Pob hwyl iddyn nhw i gyd.

Mae rhai o’n cynorthwy-wyr ADY hefyd yn ein gadael. Mae Iwan James a Ieuan Priday, y ddau’n gyn-ddisgyblion, wedi gorffen eu blwyddyn o saib ac maen nhw bellach ar fin dechrau yn y brifysgol. Diolch i chi, bois am y flwyddyn ychwanegol ym Mro Edern. Hefyd mae Suan John a Tom Ellis yn ein gadael ar ôl cyfnod yn gweithio’n agos iawn gyda rhai o ddisgyblion y Cwtsh. Diolch i chi i gyd.

Rydyn ni’n edrych ymlaen at groesawu rhai staff newydd ym mis Medi:

  • Esther Jenkins (Mathemateg)
  • Amy Matthews (Mathemateg)
  • Dylan Morgan (Swyddog Rygbi)
  • Gwen Hern (Swyddog Gweinyddol)
  • Siân Davies yn symud o’r dderbynfa i fod yn swyddog presenoldeb.

Canlyniadau’r Ewros

Ar ôl i Wlad Pwyl neu 8Taf1 ennill Ewros blwyddyn 8 yr wythnos diwethaf, tro Blwyddyn 7 oedd hi yr wythnos hon. Er i Gymru, sef 7Hafren2, gyrraedd rownd derfynol Ewros Blwyddyn 7 yma ym Mro Edern, roedd y canlyniad yr un peth â’r Ewros go iawn, gyda’r Eidal yn fuddugol. Doedd dim angen amser ychwanegol na chiciau o’r smotyn ym Mro Edern, enillodd yr Eidal, sef 7Rhymni2 o 3-1. Fel y gwelwch, mae Azzurri Bro Edern yn gwisgo coch, sef lliw llys Rhymni, a Chymru mewn gwyrdd, sef lliw llys Hafren. Llongyfarchiadau mawr!

Canlyniadau F1

Mae llawer o fwrlwm wedi bod yn y Bloc Technoleg, wrth i’n timau F1 fod yn rasio’u ceir yn rownd derfynol Cymru yn y gystadleuaeth F1 i ysgolion. Llongyfarchiadau enfawr i’r tri thîm a’u hathro Mr Dewi Thomas. Mae wedi bod yn dipyn o waith cynllunio, ac mae pawb o Fro Edern wedi cyrraedd rownd derfynol Prydain yn y flwyddyn academaidd newydd.

Hello Everyone

How are you? I hope that everyone is well. Another busy week has flown by! Thank goodness, there is only one week left of this school year. We might as well admit that we have all had enough by now! Here is the latest from Bro Edern…

Positive Cases

As you probably know, we have had to send several groups of pupils home over the last week and a half. Unfortunately, I have spent a lot of time with the 2m stick of doom this week.

Here are the details:

End of last week – year 8 pupil positive, so a number of pupils from her lessons had to isolate.

Monday – year 12 pupil tested positive, but no need for anyone to isolate as she was already away from school.

Monday – 2 year 8 pupils tested positive, but no need for anyone to isolate as they were already away from school.

Tuesday – year 7 pupil tested positive, so a number of pupils from his lessons, as well as the ground floor of the 812 bus, needed to isolate.

Wednesday – we heard that a year 10 pupil was positive, after developing symptoms on Sunday evening. There were more than 48 hours since the last contact, so no need for anyone to isolate. The 48 hours took us back to Friday evening.

Thursday – a year 7 pupil, who had been sent home on Tuesday, tested positive after showing symptoms immediately after returning home, so the year 7 pupil group from Tuesday now all need to isolate for an extra day, and an additional 7 pupils from year 7 also need to isolate because they are all contacts of the second pupil.

Thursday – year 10 pupil tested positive, so a number of pupils from her lessons have to isolate.

Friday – we heard at 8pm on Thursday night that the authorities do not accept our calculations, where we counted back 48 hours exactly in the Wednesday case, therefore the pupil’s contacts from Friday 2 July now need to isolate – so these pupils were sent home first thing on Friday morning. These are both lesson contacts and the ground floor of the 810 bus. A week has already passed, therefore there are only 3 days of isolation left.

I would like to sincerely thank all the parents who have received the news with such grace and collected their children immediately from school throughout the week. You have made things so much easier for us.

Symptoms

If your child shows any COVID-19 symptoms during this forthcoming week, would you please keep them away from school and arrange an immediate test at Cardiff City Stadium for them? Numbers are rising rapidly in Cardiff and beyond, and we all have a duty to keep everyone safe. It is still possible to be very ill, despite the fact that many people are now double jabbed. If in doubt – get tested. All details are here:

Welsh Government Website

Lateral Flow Tests

Please remember to continue doing these tests twice a week with your child next week, and again before returning in September. If you need more tests, Miss Sawyer has a stock of blue boxes in the main office (not in reception).

Arrangements for the last week of term

Our final week is on the horizon, and we originally had all sorts of plans. However, we have decided to cancel these activities in order to keep the pupils safe in their bubbles and in their normal seating plans. This is in order to try to protect everyone and try to safeguard the Bro Edern family summer holidays. Also, the weather doesn’t look too great for Monday! The term ends on Friday 16 July – the two days the following week are Inset Days which staff did last September and October as four twilight sessions.

In the end, we decided that the only activity to take place will be our Mabolgampau (Sports Day). Fresh air will benefit everyone next week! The sports will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday on our fields, with one year group at a time, in our class bubbles. It will not be possible for parents to attend due to COVID rules. Each year group will have either a morning or an afternoon of sports on one of the days. EVERYONE needs to come to school in PE kit on both Tuesday and Wednesday, but everyone also needs books and equipment for every lesson. Also, please remember to pack a roll on deodorant in the bag! Aerosols are banned in Bro Edern. Pupils can either wear the Bro Edern official PE top, or the colour of their school house: Green = Hafren, Red = Rhymni, Blue = Taf.

Here are the things you and your child need to know about the mabolgampau:

  • The activities will be run as a regular PE lesson. This is not the Olympics!
  • Everyone will compete in every activity, just as in normal PE lessons.
  • Pupils will rotate around different activities in their bubbles.
  • There will be 8 groups in each year (4 groups of girls / 4 groups of boys), in different areas during the day e.g. group 1 high jump, group 2 javelin etc.
  • The boys and girls will be separate when competing.
  • No-one will watch pupils compete, apart from the small group of pupils in each group – groups will be small and each pupil will be with friends. In this regard, this will be like the 2021 Tokyo Olympics – no spectators!
  • Pupils do not need to be competitive within their groups. Any future Colin Jacksons are clearly welcome to go for gold, but for everyone else, it’s the taking part that’s important.
  • All pupils earn house points for taking part.
  • It’s the participation and effort that matters – and #joio

Eisteddfod Results

During the coming week, we are really looking forward to hearing who has won the various Eisteddfod competitions. These will be announced to pupils during the week, and you as parents will be able to keep an eye on our @BroEdern tweets.

Next Week’s Lessons

During the other days next week, there will be normal lessons, and live lessons for the pupils at home. Thank you for your patience with the live lessons this week – many staff have been isolating, because they have received a ping on the app, which means that many supply teachers have been at school instead. Many staff have also been involved in the two transition days, when all year 6 pupils in the cluster came to school on Wednesday and Thursday. We have tried to provide as many live lessons as possible this week, but it has been difficult!

Year 12 Arrangements

Year 12’s time at Bro Edern is coming to an end for this year, but there is one very important week left. Therefore, next week year 12 will follow a slightly different timetable from usual. Many of the meetings are with external visitors, so Miss Land reminds everyone that the camera will need to be kept on throughout every presentation. Miss Land would also like to remind everyone that it is ESSENTIAL that EVERYONE reads ALL emails regularly. This is the main way of communicating information between Miss Land and the Sixth Form.

Monday – online from home

9am – University of South Wales online presentation to help students further with UCAS / Personal Statement. Students have already received a lot of support to help them write their personal statement via e-mail and Google Classroom. Students have also received a video that takes them through the process of how to start the application form. There is also a special ‘buzzword’ shared with everyone that will ensure that all forms are linked to the school’s UCAS account. All the above information has been e-mailed to year 12 over the last few weeks.

11am – An online presentation by the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol (Welsh National College) which will contain important information for everyone.

Miss Land will share the Google Meet links with the year group by e-mail on Monday morning. After the second meeting, everyone will be able to continue their UCAS work for the rest of the day.

Tuesday – online from home

9am – Assembly held by Mr Alan Williams. The rest of the day – continuing with UCAS work.

Some select pupils will come to school to complete their Bac work by 11am. These arrangements will be made with the relevant families on Monday.

Wednesday – in school

Normal lessons for year 12.

Thursday – need to come to school by 11:45am

UNDOD training for all at 11:45 sharp in the Lolfa – Miss Land will register everyone.

Friday – at home

A day of reading / research / continuing with UCAS / #joio

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award

Mr Cai Milsom takes over responsibility for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award in the new academic year, as part of his new role as our Extra Curricular Co-ordinator.

Two important messages today:

Pupils who have already registered, paid and started the award – all activitiy will resume in the autumn, under the supervision of Mr Milsom. Any queries should be directed to him.

Year 9 pupils – anyone who would like to embark on the award in the new year needs to complete the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award application form by Tuesday 13th July. The pupils have heard all the details in school and everything is on their Google Classroom. Any queries should be sent to Mr Milsom.

There will be another blog before the summer holidays, but here are some headline details for next year:

There is a further Inset date to follow, once we have received the exam timetables from WJEC. These have not yet been published for 2022.

Transition

Thanks to everyone who supported the Transition activities this week. I understand that the year 6 pupils had two enjoyable days at Bro Edern. We look forward to welcoming them properly to Bro Edern in September.

Hopefully year 6 parents found the parents meeting useful on Thursday night. A copy of the meeting slides can be found on our Transition website:

pontio.broedern.cymru

If you have children in year 5, please remember that there is an online information meeting about Bro Edern for year 5 parents this Monday, the 12th at 5:30 pm in Welsh: https://bit.ly/3xpzqox and at 6:30 pm English: https://bit.ly/36m4ytg

Bro Edern Euros

Huge congratulations to Poland, aka 8Taf1 on winning the Bro Edern Year 8 Euros. In the final they beat Croatia, aka 8Taf2. Many pupils have been taking part in this popular competition for the last few weeks during the lunch hour. Next week we are looking forward to the year 7 final. At least Wales will feature in our final!

Here are the year 8 champions, Poland aka 8Taf1:

Year 7 Language Project

You may remember that our year 7 pupils have been invited to be part of an exciting project with Cardiff University, led by Mrs Tirion Jones in the English Department. This is the very last call for parental permission. Here is a copy of the letter again:

The Cyfeillion and their Swap Siop

Many thanks to the Cyfeillion (PTA) who have been busy setting up our popular second hand uniform Swap Siop. There has been a lot of demand – hence Mrs Frost’s appeal – if you have any old uniform at home, would you please clear it all out this weekend? Please send in any uniform via your child, or drop anything off in reception. In particular the Shop Swap lacks year 7-9 polo shirts (the green ones), school jumpers and extra-curricular hoodies.

The last Cyfeillion meeting of the year takes place this Monday at 6pm – all welcome! Here are the details to join the meeting virtually:

https://us04web.zoom.us/j/77137447765?pwd=MjdUVWJNamx4aE5pdzhLN2NIODllUT09

Meeting ID: 771 3744 7765
Passcode: zNm2Tf

Over £500 has now been raised by Bro Edern parents on behalf of the Cyfeillion, using the EasyFundraising app. Please remember to use this handy little app every time you shop online, and thanks to everyone who already does. It costs you nothing!

Please remember the Cyfeillion Twitter account. You can follow their tweets here: @CyfeillionBroEd

That’s it for today. Another blog will be out for the end of term, with further details about summer activities, official results and more arrangements for September.

Thanks to you all, as usual, for your continued support for Bro Edern.

Best wishes

Helo Bawb

Sut mae? Gobeithio bo pawb yn iawn. Am wythnos brysur arall! Diolch byth mai ond un wythnos o’r flwyddyn ysgol hon sydd i fynd. Teg dweud bod pawb wedi cael llond bol erbyn hyn! Dyma’r diweddaraf o Fro Edern …

Achosion Positif

Fel y gwyddoch, mae’n siwr, rydyn ni wedi gorfod anfon sawl carfan o ddisgyblion adref ar hyd yr wythnos a hanner diwethaf. Yn anffodus, rydw i a’r 2m stick of doom wedi bod yn brysur iawn.

Dyma’r manylion:

Diwedd wythnos diwethaf – disgybl blwyddyn 8 yn bositif, felly criw o ddisgyblion o’i gwersi’n gorfod hunanynysu.

Dydd Llun – disgybl blwyddyn 12 wedi profi’n bositif, ond neb angen hunanynysu am ei bod eisoes i ffwrdd o’r ysgol ers tipyn.

Dydd Llun – 2 ddisgybl blwyddyn 8 wedi profi’n bositif, ond neb angen hunanynysu am eu bod eisoes i ffwrdd o’r ysgol ers tipyn.

Dydd Mawrth – disgybl blwyddyn 7 wedi profi’n bositif, felly criw o ddisgyblion o’i wersi, yn ogystal â llawr waelod y bws 812 angen hunanynysu.

Dydd Mercher – clywed bod disgybl blwyddyn 10 yn bositif, ar ôl datblygu symtomau nos Sul. Roedd mwy na 48 awr ers y cyswllt diwethaf, felly neb angen hunanynysu. Roedd 48 awr yn mynd â ni nôl i nos Wener.

Dydd Iau – disgybl blwyddyn 7 a oedd wedi cael ei anfon adref ddydd Mawrth wedi profi’n bositif ar ôl dangos symtomau’n syth ar ôl mynd adref, felly’r criw disgyblion bl 7 o ddydd Mawrth nawr angen hunanynysu am ddiwrnod ychwanegol, a 7 disgybl ychwanegol o flwyddyn 7 nawr angen hunanynysu am eu bod yn gysylltiadau i’r ail ddisgybl.

Dydd Iau – disgybl blwyddyn 10 wedi profi’n bositif, felly criw o ddisgyblion o’i gwersi’n gorfod hunanynysu

Dydd Gwener – wedi clywed am 8pm nos Iau nad yw’r awdurdodau’n derbyn y ffaith ein bod wedi cyfri 48 awr union yn achos dydd Mercher, felly mae angen i gysylltiadau’r disgybl ar ddydd Gwener 2 Gorffennaf hefyd hunanynysu. Y disgyblion hyn wedi cael eu hanfon adref fore dydd Gwener, sef cysylltiadau gwersi’r disgybl a llawr waelod y bws 810. Mae wythnos wedi pasio, felly dim ond 3 diwrnod sydd ar ôl iddynt hunanynysu.

Hoffwn ddiolch o waelod calon i’r rhieni sydd wedi derbyn y newyddion mor raslon a chasglu’u plant yn syth o’r ysgol ar hyd yr wythnos. Rydych chi gyd wedi gwneud pethau gymaint yn haws i ni.

Symtomau

Os oes unrhyw symtomau COVID-19 gan eich plentyn yn yr wythnos olaf, a wnewch chi eu cadw o’r ysgol a threfnu prawf yn syth yn Stadiwm Dinas Caerdydd iddynt? Mae’r niferoedd yn codi’n gyflym yng Nghaerdydd a thu hwnt i’r brifddinas, ac mae dyletswydd arnom i gyd i gadw pawb yn saff. Mae hi dal yn bosibl bod yn sâl iawn er gwaetha’r ffaith fod llawer o bobl bellach wedi derbyn dau frechiad. Os oes amheuaeth – prawf amdani. Mae’r manylion i gyd yma:

Gwefan Llywodraeth Cymru

Profion Llif Unffordd (LFT)

Cofiwch barhau i wneud y rhain ddwywaith yr wythnos gyda’ch plentyn yr wythnos nesaf, ac eto cyn dychwelyd ym mis Medi. Os oes angen mwy o brofion arnoch, mae stoc o focsys glas gan Miss Sawyer yn y brif swyddfa (nid y dderbynfa).

Trefniadau’r Wythnos Olaf

Mae’r wythnos olaf ar y gorwel, ac roedd gennym bob math o gynlluniau ar y gweill. Fodd bynnag, rydyn ni wedi penderfynu canslo’r gweithgareddau er mwyn cadw’r disgyblion yn saff yn eu swigod ac yn eu cynlluniau eistedd arferol. Mae hwn er mwyn ceisio amddiffyn pawb a cheisio diogelu gwyliau haf teuluoedd Bro Edern. Hefyd, nid yw’r tywydd yn argoeli’n wych ar gyfer dydd Llun. Mae’r tymor yn gorffen ar ddydd Gwener 16 Gorffennaf – mae’r ddau ddiwrnod yr wythnos ganlynol yn ddiwrnodau HMS sydd wedi cael eu cwblhau gan staff fel pedair sesiwn hwyrnos ym mis Medi a Hydref.

Yn y pen draw, rydym ni wedi penderfynu mai’r unig weithgaredd fydd yn digwydd fydd ein mabolgampau. Bydd cael bod yn yr awyr iach yn gwneud lles i bawb yr wythnos nesaf! Bydd y mabolgampau’n digwydd ddydd Mawrth a Mercher ar ein caeau ni, fesul blwyddyn ar y tro, ac yn y swigod dosbarth. Ni fydd hi’n bosibl i rieni fynychu oherwydd rheolau COVID. Bydd pob blwyddyn yn derbyn naill ai bore neu bnawn o fabolgampau ar un o’r diwrnodau. Mae angen i BAWB ddod i’r ysgol mewn cit Add Gorff ddydd Mawrth a Mercher, ond hefyd mae angen llyfrau ac offer pob gwers. Hefyd, cofiwch bacio deodorant roll on yn y bag! Ni chaniateir chwistrell o gwbl. Gall disgyblion naill ai wisgo top Add Gorff swyddogol Bro Edern, neu liw eu llys, sef Gwyrdd = Hafren, Coch = Rhymni, Glas = Taf.

Dyma’r pethau sydd angen i chi a’ch plentyn wybod am y mabolgampau:

  • Bydd y mabolgampau’n cael eu rhedeg fel gwers Add Gorff arferol. Nid Olympics fydd y rhain!
  • Bydd pawb yn cystadlu ym mhob camp, fel sy’n digwydd mewn gwersi Add Gorff arferol.
  • Bydd disgyblion yn cylchdroi o amgylch gwahanol weithgareddau mewn swigod.
  • Bydd 8 grŵp ym mhob blwyddyn (4 grŵp o ferched/ 4 grŵp o fechgyn), ar feysydd gwahanol yn ystod y dydd e.e. grŵp 1 naid uchel, grŵp 2 gwaywffon ayb.
  • Bydd y bechgyn a’r merched ar wahân wrth gystadlu.
  • Does neb yn gwylio pobl yn cystadlu, heblaw am y criw bach o ddisgyblion yn y grŵp – bydd pob grwp yn fach a phob disgybl gyda ffrindiau. O ran hynny, bydd hwn fel Olympics Tokyo 2021 – dim torf!
  • Nid oes angen i ddisgyblion fod yn gystadleuol o fewn eu grwpiau. Mae croeso i unrhyw ddarpar Colin Jackson fynd fel y gwynt, ond i bawb arall, cymryd rhan sy’n bwysig.
  • Mae pob disgybl yn ennill pwyntiau llys am gymryd rhan.
  • Cyfranogiad ac ymdrech sy’n bwysig – a #joio

BILINGUAL BLOG – English below

Annwyl Bawb

Gobeithio eich bod i gyd yn iawn. Dyma’r diweddaraf o Fro Edern. Roedden ni wedi gobeithio goroesi tan ddiwedd y tymor heb fawr o gyffro, ond yn anffodus ni fydd hynny’n bosibl. Daeth y 2m stick of doom allan heddiw am y tro cyntaf ers sbel. Fel y gwyddoch, mae’r niferoedd o achosion COVID-19 yn cynyddu unwaith eto, ac mae nifer fawr o ddisgyblion mewn ysgolion eraill yng Nghaerdydd eisoes yn hunanynysu. Mae achosion bellach wedi cyrraedd Bro Edern. Mae wedi bod yn ddiwrnod prysur …

Athro Positif

Mae aelod o staff wedi profi’n bositif (LFT yna PCR) am COVID-19. Mae hwn yn effeithio ar wersi, ond hefyd ar griw o bedwar bachgen ym mlwyddyn 10, sydd bellach angen hunanynysu am 10 diwrnod. Anfonwyd y disgyblion adref y bore ma a hoffwn ddiolch i’r rhieni am eu cydweithrediad parod wrth gasglu eu plant. Dylsai rhieni’r 4 bachgen fod wedi derbyn neges destun gyda’r llythyr sy’n esbonio manylion yr hunanynysu. Gallwn nawr gadarnhau y bydd angen i’r pedwar bachgen hunanynysu am 10 niwrnod tan nos Wener 9 Gorffennaf, gan ddychwelyd i’r ysgol ar ddydd Llun 12 Gorffennaf. Fodd bynnag, gallant adael y tŷ o ddydd Sadwrn 10fed ymlaen.

Ping positif ar yr app

Mae 2 athro pellach wedi derbyn ping positif ar app COVID y llywodraeth neithiwr am eu bod wedi bod o fewn cyrraedd i rywun positif y tu allan i’r ysgol. Bydd yr athrawon hyn nawr yn hunanynysu, gan ddilyn cyfarwyddyd yr app. Byddant yn trefnu eu gwersi o’r tŷ, er mwyn ceisio lleihau ar y tarfu ar addysg ein disgyblion.

Prawf LFT Positif

Mae disgybl blwyddyn 8 wedi cael prawf llif unffordd (LFT) positif neithiwr. Mae’r teulu wedi cysylltu’n syth gyda’r ysgol ac wedi trefnu profion PCR ar gyfer y teulu heddiw. Diolch iddynt am eu cydweithrediad parod. Nid yw canlyniad y prawf PCR eto wedi cyrraedd, ond yn y cyfamser, rydyn ni wedi gorfod anfon 40 o ddisgyblion a oedd yn gysylltiadau agos i’r disgybl adref o’r ysgol i hunanynysu. Aethon ni o amgylch pob dosbarth ble roedd y disgybl wedi bod, gan fesur y 2m allweddol yn erbyn y cynlluniau eistedd. Diolch hefyd i rieni’r 40 disgybl a ymatebodd mor gyflym y bore ma. Unwaith i ni gael cadarnhad o’r canlyniad byddwn yn rhoi gwybod i rieni’r disgyblion sydd yn hunanynysu.

Profion Llif Unffordd LFT

Oherwydd y cynnydd yn y niferoedd, byddwn yn dosbarthu bocsys glas newydd o brofion llif unffordd i bawb yfory. Rydyn ni’n credu y bydd y mwyafrif wedi rhedeg mas o brofion erbyn hyn. Mae’n helpu i amddiffyn holl deulu Bro Edern os yw pawb yn gwneud y profion yn rheolaidd, ddwywaith yr wythnos. Bydd y bocsys glas ym magiau disgyblion nos yfory. Mae cyfarwyddiadau llawn yn y bocsys.

Diolch i chi unwaith eto am eich cydweithrediad parod wrth gefnogi’r ysgol.

English Blog

Dear All

I hope that you’re all well. Here is the latest from Bro Edern. We had hoped to survive quietly until the end of term, but unfortunately this is no longer a possibility. The 2m stick of doom came out today for the first time in a while. As you know, the numbers of COVID-19 cases are increasing again, and a large number of pupils in other Cardiff schools are already self-isolating. Cases have now reached Bro Edern. It has been a busy day…

Positive Teacher

A member of staff has tested positive (LFT then PCR) for COVID-19. This affects lessons, but also a group of 4 boys in year 10 who now need to self-isolate for 10 days. The pupils were sent home this morning and I would like to thank their parents for their willing co-operation in collecting their children quickly. The parents of the 4 boys should have received a text message from school with a letter explaining the details of the self-isolation. We can now confirm that these four boys will need to self-isolate for 10 days until Friday 9 July, returning to school on Monday 12 July. However, they can leave the house from Saturday 10th.

Positive Ping on the app

A further two teachers have received a positive ping on the government’s COVID app last night, because they have been within reach of someone positive outside school. These teachers will now need to self-isolate, following the app’s instructions. They will organise their lessons from home, to try to minimise disruption to our pupils’ learning.

Positive LFT Test

A year 8 pupil recorded a positive lateral flow test (LFT) last night. The family has contacted the school immediately and they have arranged PCR tests for the family today. I would like to thank the family for their willing co-operation. The result of the PCR test has not yet arrived, but in the meantime we needed to send 40 pupils, who were close contacts of the pupil, home from school to self-isolate. Today we went around each classroom where the pupil had attended lessons, measuring the critical 2m against all seating plans. Once we have confirmation of the outcome of the latest test, we will inform the parents of the self-isolating pupils.

Lateral Flow Tests

Due to the increase in numbers, we will be issuing new blue boxes of lateral flow tests to everyone, once again tomorrow. We believe that the vast majority will have run out of tests by now. It will help protect the whole Bro Edern family if everyone takes the tests regularly, twice a week. The blue boxes will be in pupils’ bags tomorrow night. Full instructions are in the boxes.

Thank you once again for your willing co-operation in supporting the school.

2021 Results

Hello Everyone

I hope that you are all well. It has been a busy time here at Bro Edern with a full week of assessing, standardising, moderating and entering grades for year 11, 12 and 13 pupils since half term. Once again, I would like to thank the staff for their hard work, working to tight deadlines and administering a complex process which is new for us all. Departments have spent long hours and endless days trying to ensure fairness for all Bro Edern pupils. We truly hope that everyone will feel that they have received their deserved grades in the coming week.

Results

The results to be published next week are called “provisional grades”. These results will then be confirmed officially on the usual results’ days in August. Please note that we do not expect to see many results changing across Wales, between now and August.

Here is the timetable for the Bro Edern results:

  • Year 13: Tuesday 15 June 9 – 10am
  • Year 12: Tuesday 15 June 10 – 11am
  • Year 11: Wednesday 16 June 9 – 10:30am

The results will be available for the pupils to collect from the hall. Unfortunately, parents will not be able to enter the hall with their child, but you are welcome to stay outside. If a pupil cannot attend, and a parent needs to collect the results on their behalf, then one adult per pupil will be allowed into the hall to collect the results. There will be a one way system in the hall, and a mask will need to be worn at all times on the school premises.

***** Pupils need to return all school books, such as textbooks or novels. Also, according to our list, some pupils still have their school iPad. Everything needs to be returned to school on results’ day.

Partnership Course Results

Schools have had to make their own arrangements for publishing results, so this year the results of different schools in Wales will be published on different days. If your child has followed a partnership course, the results’ days for the other two schools are as follows:

  • Glantaf: Wednesday 16 June
  • Plasmawr: Wednesday 23 June

Partnership pupils are welcome to collect their results from the teaching school (Glantaf / Plasmawr) on the days noted above, or if this is not practical, they can be collected from Bro Edern on the same day.

Please contact Miss Land if you have any further queries.

Results of Qualifications from England

Some of our qualifications are regulated by Ofqual in England (rather than Qualifications Wales) and/or set by examination boards in England. England is not announcing early results like Wales this year. The results of any English qualifications will be published on the normal results’ day, therefore this means that they will not be available until the official results day, 10 August (Sixth Form) or 12 August (GCSE). We understand that this will be frustrating for our pupils, as they will not have a complete picture of their results, but arrangements for English qualifications are quite different this year.

I can confirm that these are our qualifications from England, and therefore these results will not be announced until August:

Year 11:

  • Construction Level 1 and 2
  • Hair and Beauty

Sixth Form Courses:

  • BTEC Sport
  • Music Technology
  • Public Services
  • Engineering Level 2
  • Medical Science
  • Vocational Business
  • Criminology
  • Tourism
  • Food Science and Nutrition

Support Clinic

The school has organised a support clinic for pupils who are keen to discuss their results and next steps. The Support Clinic will be held on Thursday morning next week, 17 June. Mr Voyle, Miss Land and Mrs Rhys-Roberts will be available to talk to pupils and their parents, as well as Dylan Evans (Careers Wales), Charlie Owen (Youth Mentor) and Matthew Lewis (Youth Mentor).

The sessions will be held in the hall, and you will need to book a time slot using this form, in order to limit the number of people in the hall at any given time:

Decision Making Record

If a pupil is unhappy and would like more details of the process in determining a particular grade, then they can apply for a copy of the Decision Making Record. Full details of this, together with a relevant link, will be in the envelope with the results. The deadline to apply to see the Decision Making Record will be 12pm at lunchtime on Friday 18 June. Late applications cannot be processed.

If your child attends a partnership course at Plasmawr or Glantaf, you will need to contact the teaching school in order to apply for the Decision Making Record of the partnership course, and follow the partnership school’s processes.

Requesting a grade review

Having viewed the Decision Making Record, some pupils may still be unhappy with their grade in a particular subject. WJEC has put special procedures in place for the next steps. The process needs to be conducted on paper, on the official forms.

Learners must give their written consent prior to a review being undertaken, because WJEC emphasise that their provisional grade could go down, up or stay the same, as a result of a school conducting a review.

The school can only be asked to review a grade on a limited basis of specific situations.

This is the official information from WJEC documentation. As you can see, there are only 3 different reasons for requesting a grade review:

  • Centre administrative error: It is anticipated that administrative errors will have been corrected during a centre review. If the learner considers that an administrative error persists, WJEC will consider the evidence in respect of whether an error occurred.
  • Procedural error: Based on the information provided by the learner, WJEC will evaluate whether the centre followed the procedure (centre policy/assessment plan) which is being challenged by the learner. It is not a ground for an appeal that the learner disagrees with the content of a procedure, the focus of an appeal is the application of the procedure.
  • An unreasonable grade: WJEC will consider the learner’s decision making record and related evidence and determine whether the grade is reasonable. A centre determined grade will only be considered unreasonable if it is well outside the bounds of reasonable academic judgement and that the evidence cannot reasonably support the grade awarded. The appeal will not consider an alternative grade submitted by the learner or whether an alternative grade is reasonable. As the centre determined grade is holistic in nature, the reviewer will take a similarly holistic approach to their decision-making. The reviewer will not re-mark individual assessments. The reviewer will consider the learner’s assessment evidence in its entirety to determine whether the overall grade is reasonable.

The process of requesting a grade review will begin with the pupil collecting the appropriate form from the school reception.

Year 12 Arrangements

Year 12 will return to school on Monday, the day before their results. During lesson 1 on Monday morning there will be a very important assembly for year 12 pupils, outlining all the arrangements for the forthcoming months, including UCAS arrangements and preparation for year 13. On Wednesday (16 June) year 12 pupils will spend a day at an online conference, enabling them to make virtual visits to various colleges and universities and to find out more about apprenticeships. Pupils will go online from home for the day, so that they can customise their day according to their future plans. Miss Land will release the final information on Monday morning at the assembly. Attendance at the online assembly is essential and Miss Land will release a link in advance in order for everyone to join.

As you know, the disruption to our year 12 pupils’ education this year, and the alternative arrangements for their recent AS exams, mean that year 12 marks do not count at all in year 13. Year 13 lessons start on Monday with our pupils starting with a clean slate. This is a great opportunity for them to prove themselves under the usual exam conditions in summer 2022.

Diolch

It has been a difficult time for our pupils in exam years and I would like to thank you as parents for attending all our online meetings, as we worked through the latest and ever-changing assessment arrangements. Thank you also for supporting your child, and the school, every step of the way, once again. It’s nearly over …

Best wishes

Unwaith eto hoffwn ddiolch i’r staff am eu gwaith caled dan derfyn amser tynn yn gweinyddu broses gymhleth sy’n newydd i ni gyd. Mae’r adrannau wedi treulio oriau maith a dyddiau di-ben-draw’n ceisio sicrhau tegwch i holl ddisgyblion Bro Edern. Os nad yw’r disgybl ar gael, a bod rhiant angen casglu’r canlyniadau ar ran eu plentyn, yna caniateir un oedolyn yn y neuadd i gasglu’r canlyniadau ar gyfer pob disgybl. Bydd system un ffordd yn y neuadd a bydd angen gwisgo mwgwd.

***** Mae angen dychwelyd unrhyw lyfrau sy’n perthyn i’r ysgol e.e. gwerslyfrau neu nofelau. Hefyd, yn ôl ein rhestr ni, mae ambell i iPad ysgol yn dal i fod gan ddisgyblion. Dylid dychwelyd popeth i’r ysgol ar ddiwrnod y canlyniadau.

Canlyniadau Cyrsiau Partneriaeth

Mae ysgolion wedi gorfod rhoi eu trefniadau eu hunain at ei gilydd ar gyfer cyhoeddi canlyniadau, felly eleni mae canlyniadau gwahanol ysgolion yng Nghymru’n cael eu cyhoeddi ar wahanol ddyddiau. Os yw eich plentyn yn gwneud cwrs partneriaeth, dyma ddyddiadau’r canlyniadau ar gyfer y ddwy ysgol arall:

  • Glantaf: dydd Mercher 16 Mehefin
  • Plasmawr: dydd Mercher 23 Mehefin

Mae croeso i’r disgyblion partneriaeth gasglu eu canlyniadau o’r ysgol ddysgu (Glantaf / Plasmawr) ar y diwrnod a nodir uchod neu os nad yw hynny’n ymarferol, gellir eu casglu o Fro Edern ar yr un diwrnod.

Cysylltwch â Miss Land os oes gennych unrhyw ymholiadau pellach.

Canlyniadau Cymwysterau o Loegr

Mae rhai o’n cymwysterau’n cael eu rheoleiddio gan Ofqual yn Lloegr (nid Cymwysterau Cymru) a/neu’n cael eu gosod gan fyrddau arholi yn Lloegr. Nid yw Lloegr yn cyhoeddi canlyniadau’n gynnar fel Cymru eleni. Mae canlyniadau unrhyw gymwysterau Lloegr yn cael eu cyhoeddi ar y diwrnod canlyniadau arferol, felly golyga hyn na fyddant ar gael nes y diwrnod canlyniadau swyddogol, sef 10 Awst (Chweched) neu 12 Awst (TGAU). Rydyn ni’n deall y bydd hyn yn rhwystredig i’n disgyblion, am na fydd darlun cyfan o’u canlyniadau ganddynt, ond mae’r trefniadau ar gyfer cymwysterau Lloegr yn hollol wahanol i Gymru eleni.

Gallaf gadarnhau mai dyma’r cymwysterau sydd yn deillio o Loegr, ac felly ni fydd y canlyniadau hyn yn cael eu cyhoeddi tan fis Awst:

Blwyddyn 11:

  • Adeiladwaith Lefel 1 a 2
  • Gwallt a Harddwch

Cyrsiau’r Chweched:

  • BTEC Chwaraeon
  • Technoleg Cerdd
  • Gwasanaethau Cyhoeddus
  • Peirianneg Lefel 2
  • Gwyddor Feddygol
  • Busnes Galwedigaethol
  • Troseddeg
  • Twristiaeth
  • Gwyddor Bwyd a Maeth

Clinig Cefnogi

Mae’r ysgol wedi trefnu clinic cefnogi ar gyfer disgyblion sy’n awyddus i drafod eu canlyniadau a’u camau nesaf. Cynhelir y Clinic Cefnogi fore dydd Iau wythnos nesaf, 17 Mehefin. Bydd Mr Voyle, Miss Land a Mrs Rhys-Roberts ar gael i siarad gyda disgyblion a’u rhieni, yn ogystal â Dylan Evans (Gyrfa Cymru), Charlie Owen (Mentor Ieuenctid) a Matthew Lewis (Mentor Ieuenctid).

Cynhelir y sesiynau yn y neuadd, a bydd angen bwcio slot amser drwy ddefnyddio’r ffurflen hon, er mwyn cyfyngu ar nifer y bobl sydd yn y neuadd ar yr un pryd:

Cofnod Gwneud Penderfyniad

Os yw disgybl yn anhapus ac angen mwy o fanylion am y broses o benderfynu ar radd rhyw bwnc penodol, yna bydd modd gwneud cais am y Cofnod Gwneud Penderfyniad. Bydd manylion llawn am hyn, ynghyd â linc perthnasol, yn yr amlen gyda’r canlyniadau. Y dyddiad cau i wneud cais am y Cofnod Gwneud Penderfyniad yw 12pm amser cinio ddydd Gwener 18 Mehefin. Ni ellir prosesu ceisiadau hwyr.

Os yw eich plentyn yn dilyn cwrs partneriaeth ym Mhlasmawr neu Glantaf, bydd angen cysylltu gyda’r ysgol ddysgu er mwyn gwneud cais am y Cofnod Gwneud Penderfyniad y cwrs partneriaeth, a dilyn prosesau’r ysgol honno.

Gofyn am adolygiad o radd

Yn dilyn gweld y Cofnod Gwneud Penderfyniad, efallai y bydd ambell ddisgybl yn parhau i fod yn anfodlon gyda’u gradd mewn pwnc penodol. Mae CBAC wedi gosod trefn arbennig yn ei lle ar gyfer y camau nesaf. Mae’r broses hon angen digwydd ar bapur, ar y ffurflenni swyddogol.

Rhaid i’r disgyblion gydsynio’n ysgrifenedig cyn cynnal unrhyw adolygiad o radd, oherwydd mae CBAC yn pwysleisio y gallai’r radd ragarweiniol fynd i lawr, fynd i fyny neu aros yr un peth â chanolfan sy’n cynnal adolygiad.

Dim ond ar sail gyfyng o sefyllfaoedd penodol y gellir gofyn i’r ysgol adolygu unrhyw radd.

Dyma’r wybodaeth swyddogol o ddogfennaeth CBAC. Fel y gwelwch, dim ond 3 rheswm gwahanol sydd ar gyfer gofyn am adolygiad o radd:

  • Gwall gweinyddol gan y ganolfan: Rhagwelir y bydd gwallau gweinyddol wedi’u cywiro yn ystod adolygiad canolfannau. Os yw’r dysgwr o’r farn bod gwall gweinyddol yn bodoli o hyd, bydd CBAC yn trafod y dystiolaeth gan ystyried p’un a ddigwyddodd gwall ai peidio.
  • Gwall gweithdrefnol: Bydd CBAC yn gwerthuso p’un a ddilynodd y ganolfan y weithdrefn (polisi/cynllun asesu’r ganolfan) y mae’r dysgwr yn ei herio. Gwneir hyn ar sail y wybodaeth y bydd y dysgwr wedi’i darparu. Nid yw’r ffaith bod y dysgwr yn anghytuno â chynnwys gweithdrefn yn rheswm dros apelio. Canolbwyntio ar sut cafodd y weithdrefn ei gweithredu y mae apêl.
  • Gradd afresymol: bydd CBAC yn ystyried cofnod gwneud penderfyniadau’r dysgwr a thystiolaeth berthynol ac yn penderfynu a yw’r radd yn rhesymol. Dim ond os yw’r radd ymhell y tu hwnt i arffiniau barn academaidd resymol y caiff ei hystyried yn afresymol. Ni fyddai’r dystiolaeth yn rhesymol yn gallu cefnogi’r radd a ddyfarnwyd. Ni fydd yr apêl yn ystyried gradd amgen a gyflwynir gan y dysgwr na ph’un a yw gradd amgen yn rhesymol. Gan fod natur unrhyw radd a bennir gan ganolfannau yn gyfannol, bydd yr adolygwr yn gwneud unrhyw benderfyniadau gan ddefnyddio dull cyfannol tebyg. Ni fydd yr adolygwr yn ailfarcio asesiadau unigol. Bydd yr adolygwr yn ystyried tystiolaeth asesu’r dysgwr yn ei chyfanrwydd i benderfynu a yw’r radd gyffredinol yn rhesymol ai peidio.

Bydd y broses o ofyn am adolygiad o’r radd yn dechrau gyda’r disgybl yn casglu’r ffurflen briodol o dderbynfa’r ysgol.

Trefniadau Blwyddyn 12

Bydd blwyddyn 12 yn dychwelyd i’r ysgol ddydd Llun, y diwrnod cyn eu canlyniadau. Fore dydd Llun gwers 1 mae gwasanaeth pwysig iawn ar gyfer disgyblion blwyddyn 12, yn amlinellu’r holl drefniadau ar gyfer y misoedd nesaf, gan gynnwys trefniadau UCAS a pharatoi ar gyfer blwyddyn 13. Ddydd Mercher nesaf (16 Mehefin) bydd disgyblion blwyddyn 12 yn treulio diwrnod mewn cynhadledd ar-lein a fydd yn eu galluogi i ymweld yn rhithiol â gwahanol golegau a phrifysgolion a darganfod mwy am brentisiaethau. Bydd y disgyblion yn mynd ar-lein o gartref am y dydd oherwydd bydd hyn yn eu galluogi i deilwra’r diwrnod i’w cynlluniau personol. Bydd Miss Land yn rhyddhau’r wybodaeth derfynol fore dydd Llun yn y gwasanaeth. Mae’n hanfodol fod pawb yn bresennol yn y gwasanaeth ar-lein a bydd y manylion cysylltu mewn e-bost gan Miss Land.

Fel y gwyddoch, oherwydd y tarfu a fu ar addysg blwyddyn 12 eleni, a’r trefniadau amgen ar gyfer yr arholiadau AS diweddar, nid yw marciau blwyddyn 12 yn cyfri o gwbl ym mlwyddyn 13. Mae gwersi blwyddyn 13 yn dechrau ddydd Llun a golyga hyn y bydd ein disgyblion yn dechrau gyda llechen lân, gyda chyfle i brofi’u hunain o dan yr amodau arholiad arferol yn haf 2022.

Diolch

Mae wedi bod yn gyfnod astrus i’n disgyblion sydd mewn blynyddoedd arholiad a hoffwn ddiolch i chi fel rhieni am fynychu’r holl gyfarfodydd ar-lein wrth i ni weithio drwy’r trefniadau asesu diweddaraf a oedd yn newid yn gyson ar un adeg. Diolch hefyd am gefnogi eich plentyn, a’r ysgol, bob cam o’r ffordd unwaith eto. Mae’r cyfan bron ar ben …

Pob dymuniad da

Whitsun Half Term

Hello Everyone

How are you? I hope that you are all well. Another half term is over as we all look forward to a week’s holiday. There hasn’t been a blog for a few weeks as everyone here has been so busy. Today’s blog is long – thank you in advance for your time and patience! There is a podcast version of the blog – click on the Spotify link at the top of the page if you prefer to listen. It has been a very busy time for years 11, 12 and 13 and their teachers, but all the assessments are now over and the pupils, at least, have the opportunity to relax. Our pupils are to be commended for responding so well to the assessments – it has been a challenging time, but the pupils have taken everything in their stride and we now hope that they will get the grades that they deserve once all marking, standardisation, moderation and grading has been completed.

Inset Day

Please remember that the first day after half term, Monday 7 June, is an Inset Day. During this day all staff will be working in their departments marking, standardising, moderating and grading the work of years 11, 12 and 13. We also need to complete a mountain of paperwork to accompany our findings. This is our last mid-term Inset Day for this year. We all finish for the summer on Friday 16 July, as the last Monday and Tuesday have already been completed as 4 twilight evenings last September and October.

Year 13

Our year 13 pupils’ time at Bro Edern has come to an end, and we were delighted to see them back in school yesterday for their very last assembly with Miss Land. They are a great cohort of pupils who have made an invaluable contribution during their time at Bro Edern. We are just sorry that their time in the Sixth Form has been interrupted so badly. They will be sadly missed.

Here is our staff video for year 13, with some familiar faces that we haven’t seen for a year or two:

We have really enjoyed seeing the video that year 13 have put together to celebrate their time with us – thanks very much for the hard work and unique humour:

Although they won’t be official Bro Edern pupils for much longer, year 13 have played an important role as part of the Bro Edern Family and it is important that they stay in touch with us, especially if they need our help.

Enjoy the last day photos:

Student Finance

We have received these presentations from Bangor University, which explain many important aspects of student finance. We recommend that all year 12 and 13 parents read them carefully.

CACHE Pupils

All lessons and placement arrangements continue for years 12 and 13 until they finish this popular childcare course and qualification. Miss Land and Miss Alice James will be organising a celebration for year 13 CACHE pupils at the end of the course. Their hard work and dedication to the course must be commended.

Year 12

Year 12 pupils have also been working very hard for their AS assessments and we hope that their hard work will provide the foundations for their final year at Bro Edern. Congratulations to year 12 for their work ethic and positive attitude over the last half term.

Year 12 will return to school to start their year 13 lessons in the second week after half term, which is Monday 14 June, and week 1 on the timetable.

Partnership lessons will also resume in the other schools, with taxis scheduled for weeks 2, 3 and 5 of next half term.

On Wednesday 16 June, Miss Land has arranged for all year 12 pupils to attend the University and Apprenticeship UK Fair. Inevitably, it will be online, so this means that pupils will need to stay at home for the day in order to attend university-based sessions that interest them personally. This will enable everyone in year 12 to start researching for their UCAS form and finalise their choice of 5 courses in order to begin drafting their UCAS personal statement before the summer. There will be discussions and presentations from various universities about the UCAS process in assemblies between now and the summer, therefore it is essential that everyone attends these.

Year 12 Work Experience

During week 4 after half term, which is the week beginning 28 June, everyone from year 12 will go on work experience for a week. The pupils have known this for some time and should have arranged placements by now. When they return to school on 14/6, Miss Land will gather all the information about the work experience placements so that the school can arrange staff visits during the week. Pupils don’t have to do a whole week at one location. 5 days can be arranged at 5 different locations to provide a range of experiences, if that is a more practical solution. Work experience placements should be linked to future plans. Pupils cannot work extra shifts at McDonalds, Costa etc. If there is any problem with arranging placements, please contact Miss Land.

Miss Land often e-mails important information to our Sixth Formers, therefore it is essential that they check their school e-mail account regularly.

Year 11

I would also like to congratulate year 11 on their positive attitude towards the recent assessments. The pupils who come to the canteen daily have been in high spirits and I know that many of them have been working very hard preparing for their assessments. Year 11 lessons have also come to an end with the end of the assessments and I would like to thank Mr Voyle for the farewell assembly arranged for year 11. It was great to see all the old photos of the pupils at different stages of their journey through Bro Edern.

Year 11 parents – please read the message further down in the blog about our new Bro Edern uniform swap shop, before you decide to throw your child’s uniform!

Year 11 Option Columns for the Sixth Form

The school’s option columns have been ready for some time, but we wanted to prioritise the assessments so that pupils could focus fully on year 11 before starting to think about options for next year.

Here are our option columns:

Sixth Form Taster Lessons

Sixth Form taster lessons have been arranged for year 11, and all the arrangements are here in one place. There is a week of taster lessons (from 28 June onwards) for all the courses taught at Bro Edern. The partnership courses taught at Plasmawr and Glantaf can be attended on the previous Friday which is 25 June.

Friday 25 June – Partnership Courses

Sixth Form partnership taster sessions for courses held in Plasmawr and Glantaf will be held online on Microsoft Teams. The links for the sessions will follow.

Partnership Courses held in Plasmawr:

  • Music Technology
  • Spanish
  • Public Services
  • IT
  • Art: Graphics

Partnership Courses held in Glantaf:

  • Music
  • Tourism
  • Politics

28 June onwards: Bro Edern Sixth Form Taster Week for Year 11

A whole week of lessons will be held at Bro Edern so that year 11 pupils can experiment with different combinations of subjects taught at Bro Edern, use the Sixth Form Lounge and our gym. The lessons will take place in real classes with Bro Edern staff and there will be one day for each option column.

Here you can see the full details of which lessons are held when:

If you have any further queries, please contact Miss Land.

Results

We can confirm that the provisional results for our pupils (those published by the school) will be announced in mid June. The final results will be announced on 10 August (Sixth Form) and 12 August (year 11). It is anticipated that the provisional results will be exactly the same as the final results for the vast majority of pupils in Wales. The final results will only differ if the grade has been reviewed and changed by the examination boards. It is anticipated that these cases will be very rare across Wales.

Pupils will need to come to school in order to collect their results.

Here are the arrangements:

  • Year 13: Tuesday 15 June 9 – 10am
  • Year 12: Tuesday 15 June 10 – 11am
  • Year 11: Wednesday 16 June 9 – 10:30am

On Thursday 17 June there will be a support clinic for any pupils who need advice about their next steps.

Timetable for Years 7,8,9,10 and 12

On Monday 21 June, the whole school will be moving to a new timetable, as year 9 pupils begin their brand new GCSE courses and have a taste of life in year 10 before the summer. This is later than usual as we have had to focus on the year 11, 12 and 13 internal assessments this year. The new timetable will appear on ClassCharts. As ever, if you have any problem with your ClassCharts login, please contact Mr Ellis.

Lunchtime for Years 7,8,9,10

Since Wednesday, we have changed our lunchtime routine, as year 11 assessments came to an end. Because of the COVID-19 regulations, it is still impossible for everyone to have lunch at the same time.

Under our new arrangements, the year 7 lunchtime has changed, so that they only have 2 lessons in the afternoon for the rest of the term.

  • 11:53am lunchtime for years 8 and 9 – order of lessons: 1,2,3 lunch 4,5,6
  • 12:46pm lunchtime for years 7 and 10 – order of lessons: 1,2,3,4 lunch 5,6

Canteen Debts

Please would you ensure that your child’s lunch account is not in debt on ParentPay? Somehow, some accounts have managed to slide into debt, including some year 11 and 13 pupils. Would you please clear the debt as soon as possible?

I’m sure that you have also noticed that the price of the Meal of the Day (which includes a drink) has increased since 3 May.

  • Primary £2.60
  • Secondary £3.05

Free School Meals and Help to Buy Uniform

Families on low incomes across Cardiff are being encouraged to check whether they are eligible to claim Free School Meals for their children.

With many families facing difficulties and money worries due to the continued impact of the pandemic on people’s employment and incomes, the Council is keen to ensure that everyone who is entitled to receive support does get the help they need.

As well as Free School Meals, extra help is now also available for families to buy school uniform with the Pupil Development Grant being extended to include more year groups than ever before.

Families with children in Reception, Year 1, Year 3, Year 5, Years 7 to 11 can apply for funding to help buy the kit they need for school. Families can claim £125 per child and £200 if their child is in Year 7.

The extension to include more year groups is for this academic year only and parents have until June 30th2021 to apply. Only one grant per child per year is allowed so families who have already received funding for the current school year will not be able to claim again.

To check if you’re eligible for free school meals or the Pupil Development Grant, visit

https://www.cardiff.gov.uk/ENG/resident/Schools-and-learning/Financial-support/Pages/default.aspx

Do you think someone you know might be eligible or does your Council role bring you into contact with families who could use this extra support? Please encourage anyone who may be eligible to check out if they qualify. Please speak to the Advice Line on 029 2087 1071 for further information.

Lateral Flow Tests

Thank you as a family for continuing to use the lateral flow tests to protect everyone in the Bro Edern Family. The blue boxes with 3 tests have now run out, so the next boxes distributed will contain 7 tests, which will last 3 and a half weeks. This should be easier for everyone! The first boxes with 7 tests should have arrived home yesterday.

Cyfeillion Swap Shop

We are launching a ‘clothes swap shop’ at school to supply parents with second hand school uniform. I would like to thank Mrs Frost in the Technology Department for her enthusiasm with the Cyfeillion and for arranging this. Many of you as parents have raised the topic of annual textile waste. This is especially true this year. The school has been closed for such a long time, so some school uniform has hardly been worn and therefore looks brand new.

The Cyfeillion would therefore like to invite any parent with spare school uniform to deliver it via your child to Mrs Frost in T1 or to drop it off at reception. A group of parents will then wash each item and sort and pack it ready for a new home. The ‘swap shop’ will be open for pupils to collect at lunchtime on Wednesday each week or for parents to collect uniform after school on Wednesday from 3:40 until 4:30 pm. The stall will be located in the corridor outside T1. We do not charge for the uniform, but we do ask for a donation to the Cyfeillion to cover the costs of washing and and sorting the clothes. If you have nothing to exchange then don’t worry, as you are still more than welcome to collect uniform and make a donation to the Cyfeillion.

Our initial priority is to receive school jumpers, cardigans and polo shirts, or PE tops and hoodies. Once we have received a stock of clothing, the shop will be able to open in the second week after half term. Below is an order form to complete to facilitate the transfer of clothes to your child at lunchtime.

Order form: https://forms.gle/jkizUf5KXt2r2bgh9

School Uniform

The swap shop is a new venture in supporting Bro Edern families. Hopefully this should make it easier for everyone to attend school in the correct uniform at all times. Please remember that it’s either school uniform or PE kit – not half and half. PE kit may only be worn on PE days!

Recently we have collected quite a lot of jewellery from pupils, so I would like to remind you that rings / bracelets / necklaces etc are not allowed. Only one small pair of plain studs are allowed, one in each ear.

Boots for PE

Following the message about the new Swap Shop, the PE Department would also appreciate any rugby / football boots you no longer need – ones that are too small for your family members. They should be sent to school to Mr Milsom.

Nails

Please remember that we do not allow any fake nails or nail varnish. Please ensure that any signs of fancy nails disappear before returning to school after half term.

Mabolgampau – Sports’ Day

We had considered holding our Mabolgampau at Leckwith this year, but having read in detail all the latest COVID-19 guidelines for this type of event, unfortunately we have come to the decision that holding this type of event on this scale is not feasible this year.

Euros 2021

Soon, Wales will compete in the Euros at last, after the competition was cancelled last year. To celebrate the championship, we will be holding our version of the Euros at Bro Edern, with the various classes in years 7 and 8 representing the different countries in the competition. We will be holding the group games on the same day (or as close as possible) to the actual group games. We will draw names from a hat to see which registration classes are which countries.

In order to support Velindre Hospital’s “Wear Red for Wales” campaign, we will be wearing red to support Wales while raising money to beat cancer. We kindly ask our pupils to come to school in red on Friday 11 June, the first day of the Euros, ready to support Wales in their first match on Saturday against Switzerland. We are asking for a donation of £1 towards the Velindre campaign through ParentPay.

Neighbours

… that’s when good neighbours become good friends …

Unfortunately, the number of complaints I receive from our neighbours has increased dramatically. I think this is due to the fact that many parents are currently choosing to drive their children to school, rather than let their child travel on the bus. I’m sure that the recent rain also hasn’t helped. The combination of factors has significantly increased traffic levels in the area at the beginning and end of the school day. The main complaint is about parking, with parents constantly blocking driveways of nearby houses, especially while waiting to collect their children in the afternoon. Please ensure that you do not block any drives from now on.

Following discussions with some of the local residents, we have also received complaints about some pupils going into our neighbours’ gardens without reason and many complaints about pupils throwing litter, including directly into gardens . Apparently, numerous masks are discarded at the end of the day, just thrown onto the pavement or into gardens. This is just not acceptable. I would be very grateful if every parent could speak to their child about the fact that throwing litter is not acceptable in civilised society.

HPV Vaccinations

Correspondence and consent forms for HPV vaccinations have been sent to everyone in year 8, as well as a small number of year 9 and 10 pupils who have not previously received their HPV vaccinations. Pupils with completed consent forms will be vaccinated on 28 June in the gampfa. If you have not yet returned the consent form, it is needed urgently after half term. The health authority is awaiting the return of the forms so that they can order the exact number of vaccines. This was a paper form from the health authority – please contact the office if there is a problem or if your form is missing.

Year 7 Language Project

Our year 7 pupils have been invited to be part of an exciting project with Cardiff University, led by Mrs Tirion Jones in the English Department. A message from Mrs Jones has been sent to everyone by text message. Please ensure that you complete the consent form. As this is a university research project, the consent of all parents is required. If you do not consent, your child will still participate in the project and will need to do all the work, but the university will not be able to use your child’s work and data as evidence. Here is a copy of the letter again:

Cluster Curriculum

Our work on the Curriculum for Wales for the Bro Edern Cluster is progressing well because we meet weekly with our primary colleagues. I would like to say a big thank you to the group of pupils from years 11, 12 and 13 who came into school on their first day of post-assessment freedom in order to be part of a working group discussing the Bro Edern Cluster’s plans for the Curriculum for Wales. There are many decisions to be made, and our pupils’ views and input were revealing and very helpful.

Antur i Amlwch

It’s great to hear about staff and pupil progress on their way to Amlwch. There are 7 weeks left to complete the 282km or 175 miles. With the weather improving, it should be much easier for us all to get out to complete the distance!

Simply put, this is our Antur i Amlwch:

  • walk, run or cycle 175 miles, 282 km or for 59 hours – choose ONE of these
  • finishes on the last Wednesday of term, which is 14 July
  • 🥇Gold Challenge: Individual pupil to complete the whole distance to Amlwch
  • 🥈Silver Challenge: 2 pupils or 2 family members share the distance, walking 30 mins each, per hour counted, and adding the time/distance together
  • 🥉Bronze Challenge: 3 pupils or 3 family members share the distance, walking 20 mins each, per hour counted, and adding time/distance together

Pupils can keep track of their distances on mobile phone apps such as Strava or Health, or fill in our special spreadsheet, day by day: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1taAduf2YZSkhF-s2I8RYWrWfkpHbnqBpp81wJz7c8ZA/copy

We have set Bro Edern up as a club on Strava. Pupils and parents can join with this link: https://www.strava.com/clubs/broedern Pupils need to be 13 to join Strava. We will expect that any group membership requests arrive because pupils have already had parental permission to join Strava in the first place.

Police Dogs

Two police dogs called Chester and Jake came to school recently to meet year 7 pupils and to help our pupils understand more about the role of dogs within South Wales Police. The dogs had a chance to explore the school and we look forward to seeing them back in Bro Edern soon.

Singing at Tafwyl

The virtual Tafwyl was a great success once again this year, and certainly one of the highlights was seeing pupils from schools across Cardiff perform with Welsh stars of the West End. Congratulations to Eiriana and Alys, who represented Bro Edern in the song ‘Sa neb fel ti (There’s Nobody Like You):

Playlist

It’s about time that we rediscover our summer tunes, living in hope that the weather will improve. These should cheer up your half term:

Contacting Bro Edern

I would like to remind you that the school should be contacted via your child’s Head of Year. An increasing number of parents are phoning reception and asking to be transferred to speak directly to subject teachers. These teachers teach all day, so unfortunately they are not available, which is why the Head of Year is your first port of call. Please remember that Heads of Year also have a teaching timetable, so they are not always available to talk to parents. Because of this, the procedure here at Bro Edern is to e-mail the Head of Year. Thank you for your understanding with this. Here are the contact details for the summer term:

  • Blwyddyn 7: Mr Gary Ellis GEllis@ysgolbroedern.cardiff.sch.uk
  • Blwyddyn 8: Mr Kerry Lerwill KLerwill@ysgolbroedern.cardiff.sch.uk

As you can see from all the updates, it has been a very busy time, and we are facing more of the same between now and summer. Once again, I would like to thank you for your continued support of everything we do at Bro Edern. Hopefully you will be able to enjoy some peace and quiet over the half term.

Best wishes

Hanner Tymor y Sulgwyn

Helo Bawb

Sut mae? Gobeithio eich bod i gyd yn iawn. Dyma hanner tymor arall ar ben a phawb yn edrych ymlaen yn eiddgar at wythnos o wyliau haeddiannol. Does dim blog wedi bod am rai wythnosau gan fod pawb yma wedi bod mor brysur. Mae blog heddiw yn hir – diolch i chi ymlaen llaw am eich amser a’ch amynedd! Mae wedi bod yn gyfnod trwm iawn i flwyddyn 11,12 a 13 a’u hathrawon ond mae’r asesiadau bellach i gyd ar ben a’r disgyblion, o leiaf, yn cael cyfle i ymlacio. Rhaid canmol yr holl ddisgyblion am ymateb mor wych i’r asesiadau – mae wedi bod yn gyfnod heriol ond mae’r disgyblion wedi wynebu’r holl beth gydag agwedd bositif ac rydyn ni’n gobeithio y byddant yn cael eu haeddiant pan fydd yr holl farcio, safoni, cymedroli a graddio ar ben.

Diwrnod HMS

Cofiwch fod y diwrnod cyntaf ar ôl hanner tymor yn ddiwrnod HMS, sef dydd Llun 7 Mehefin. Yn ystod y diwrnod hwn bydd y staff i gyd yn gweithio yn eu hadrannau’n marcio, safoni, cymedroli a graddio gwaith blwyddyn 11, 12 a 13. Hefyd mae angen i ni gwblhau mynydd o waith papur i gyd-fynd â’r gwaith. Dyma’r diwrnod HMS olaf sy’n tarfu ar rediad y tymor am eleni. Byddwn i gyd yn gorffen ar gyfer yr haf ar ddydd Gwener 16 Gorffennaf am fod y dydd Llun a’r dydd Mawrth olaf eisoes wedi cael eu cwblhau fel 4 o hwyrnosau ym mis Medi ac Hydref.

Blwyddyn 13

Mae cyfnod blwyddyn 13 ym Mro Edern wedi dod i ben, ac roeddem yn hynod falch i’w gweld yn ôl yn yr ysgol ddoe ar gyfer eu gwasanaeth olaf un gyda Miss Land. Dyma griw hyfryd o ddisgyblion sydd wedi gwneud cyfraniad gwerthfawr yn ystod eu hamser ym Mro Edern. Rydyn ni’n flin fod eu hamser yn y Chweched wedi bod yn gyfnod mor rhyfedd. Bydd colled ar eu holau.

Dyma fideo’r staff, gyda rhai wynebau nad ydym wedi’u gweld ers blwyddyn neu ddwy:

Ac rydyn ni hefyd wedi mwynhau’n fawr gweld fideo disgyblion blwyddyn 13 – diolch iddyn nhw am eu gwaith a’u hiwmor unigryw:

Er na fyddant yn ddisgyblion swyddogol ym Mro Edern lawer hirach, mae lle pwysig i ddisgyblion blwyddyn 13 fel rhan o Deulu Bro Edern ac mae’n bwysig eu bod yn cadw mewn cysylltiad gyda’r ysgol, yn enwedig os allwn ni fod o gymorth.

Mwynhewch luniau’r diwrnod olaf:

Cyllid Myfyrwyr

Rydyn ni wedi derbyn y cyflwyniadau hyn o Brifysgol Bangor, sy’n esbonio llawer o bethau pwysig am gyllid myfyrwyr. Rydyn ni’n argymell bod rhieni blwyddyn 12 a 13 yn eu darllen yn ofalus.

Disgyblion CACHE

Mae’r gwersi a’r trefniadau lleoliad yn parhau i flwyddyn 12 a 13 nes iddynt orffen y cwrs a’r cymhwyster gofal plant poblogaidd hwn. Bydd Miss Land a Miss Alice James yn trefnu dathliad i ddisgyblion bl 13 y cwrs CACHE ar ddiwedd y cwrs. Maen nhw’n haeddu pob clod am eu gwaith caled a’u hymroddiad i’r cwrs.

Blwyddyn 12

Mae blwyddyn 12 hefyd wedi bod yn gweithio’n ddiwyd iawn ar gyfer eu hasesiadau AS ac rydyn ni’n gobeithio y bydd y gwaith caled yn gosod sylfaen ar gyfer eu blwyddyn olaf ym Mro Edern. Rhaid llongyfarch blwyddyn 12 am eu gwaith caled a’u hagwedd bositif dros yr hanner tymor diwethaf.

Bydd blwyddyn 12 yn dychwelyd i’r ysgol i ddechrau gwersi blwyddyn 13 yn yr ail wythnos ar ôl hanner tymor, sef dydd Llun 14 Mehefin, pan fydd hi’n wythnos 1 ar eu hamserlen.

Mae gwersi partneriaeth yn ailgychwyn yn yr ysgolion eraill hefyd, gyda thacsis wedi cael eu trefnu ar gyfer wythnos 2, 3 a 5 o’r hanner tymor nesaf.

Ar ddydd Mercher 16 Mehefin, mae Miss Land wedi trefnu y bydd pob disgybl ym mlwyddyn 12 yn mynychu’r University and Apprenticeship UK Fair. Yn anochel, mae’n digwydd ar-lein, felly golyga hyn y bydd disgyblion angen aros gartref am y dydd er mwyn mynychu sesiynau mewn prifysgolion sydd o ddiddordeb iddyn nhw’n bersonol. Bydd hyn yn galluogi pawb ym mlwyddyn 12 i ddechrau ymchwilio ar gyfer eu ffurflen UCAS a phenderfynu’n derfynol ar eu dewis o 5 cwrs er mwyn dechrau drafftio datganiad personol UCAS cyn yr haf. Bydd trafodaethau a chyflwyniadau gan wahanol brifysgolion am y broses UCAS yn y gwasanaethau rhwng nawr a’r haf, felly mae’n hanfodol fod pawb yn bresennol yn y rhain.

Profiad Gwaith Blwyddyn 12

Yn ystod wythnos 4 ar ôl hanner tymor, sef yr wythnos yn dechrau 28 Mehefin, bydd pawb o flwyddyn 12 yn mynd ar brofiad gwaith am wythnos. Mae’r disgyblion yn gwybod hyn ers amser ac fe ddylent fod wedi trefnu lleoliadau erbyn hyn. Pan fyddant yn dychwelyd i’r ysgol ar 14/6, bydd Miss Land yn casglu’r holl wybodaeth am leoliadau profiad gwaith y flwyddyn er mwyn i’r ysgol drefnu ymweliadau gan staff yn ystod yr wythnos. Nid oes rhaid gwneud wythnos gyfan mewn un lleoliad. Gellir trefnu 5 diwrnod mewn 5 lleoliad gwahanol er mwyn cael ystod o brofiadau, os yw hynny’n fwy ymarferol. Dylai’r lleoliadau profiad gwaith fod yn gysylltiedig gyda chynlluniau’r dyfodol. Ni all disgyblion weithio shifftiau ychwanegol yn McDonalds, Costa ayb. Os oes unrhyw broblem gyda threfnu lleoliadau, mae angen cysylltu gyda Miss Land.

Mae Miss Land yn e-bostio gwybodaeth yn gyson i ddisgyblion y Chweched, felly mae’n hanfodol eu bod yn gwirio’u cyfrif e-bost ysgol yn rheolaidd.

Blwyddyn 11

Hoffwn hefyd longyfarch blwyddyn 11 ar eu hagwedd bositif tuag at yr asesiadau diweddar. Mae’r criw sy’n dod i’r ffreutur yn ddyddiol wedi bod mewn hwyliau da a gwn fod nifer ohonynt wedi bod yn gweithio’n galed iawn yn paratoi ar gyfer yr asesiadau. Mae gwersi blwyddyn 11 hefyd wedi dirwyn i ben gyda diwedd yr asesiadau a hoffwn ddiolch i Mr Voyle am y gwasanaeth ffarwelio a drefnwyd ar gyfer blwyddyn 11. Roedd hi’n wych gweld yr holl hen luniau o ddisgyblion blwyddyn 11 ar eu taith drwy’r ysgol.

Rhieni blwyddyn 11 – gweler y neges isod am Swap Shop dillad newydd ar gyfer Bro Edern, cyn i chi daflu gwisg ysgol eich plentyn!

Colofnau Opsiwn Blwyddyn 11 ar gyfer y Chweched

Mae colofnau opsiwn yr ysgol yn barod ers peth amser, ond roeddem yn awyddus i flaenoriaethu’r asesiadau fel bod modd i ddisgyblion ganolbwyntio’n llawn ar flwyddyn 11 cyn dechrau meddwl am opsiynau’r flwyddyn nesaf.

Dyma’r colofnau i chi gael gweld:

Gwersi Blasu’r Chweched

Mae gwersi blasu’r Chweched wedi cael eu trefnu ar gyfer blwyddyn 11, felly dyma’r holl drefniadau i chi mewn un lle. Mae wythnos o wersi blasu (28 Mehefin ymlaen) ar gyfer y cyrsiau a ddysgir ym Mro Edern, a bydd modd blasu’r cyrsiau partneriaeth a ddysgir ym Mhlasmawr a Glantaf ar y dydd Gwener blaenorol.

Dydd Gwener 25 Mehefin – Cyrsiau Partneriaeth

Bydd sesiynau blasu pynciau partneriaeth y Chweched sy’n cael eu cynnal ym Mhlasmawr a Glantaf yn cael eu cynnal ar-lein ar Microsoft Teams. Mae’r lincs ar gyfer y sesiynau i ddilyn.

Cyrsiau Partneriaeth a gynhelir ym Mhlasmawr:

  • Tech Cerdd
  • Sbaeneg
  • Gwasanaethau Cyhoeddus
  • Tech Gwyb
  • Celf: Graffeg

Cyrsiau Partneriaeth a gynhelir yng Nglantaf:

  • Cerddoriaeth
  • Twristiaeth
  • Gwleidyddiaeth

28 Mehefin ymlaen: Wythnos Flasu Chweched Bro Edern ar gyfer Blwyddyn 11

Cynhelir wythnos gyfan o wersi ym Mro Edern fel bod modd i ddisgyblion blwyddyn 11 arbrofi gyda gwahanol gyfuniadau o bynciau a ddysgir ym Mro Edern, defnyddio Lolfa’r Chweched a’r gym. Bydd y gwersi’n digwydd mewn dosbarthiadau go iawn gyda staff Bro Edern a bydd un diwrnod ar gyfer pob colofn opsiwn.

Dyma’r manylion i chi o ba wersi sydd pryd:

Os oes unrhyw ymholiadau pellach, yna cofiwch gysylltu gyda Miss Land.

Canlyniadau

Gallwn gadarnhau y bydd canlyniadau dros dro’r disgyblion (y rhai sydd yn cael eu cyhoeddi gan yr ysgol) yn cael eu cyhoeddi ganol fis Mehefin. Bydd y canlyniadau terfynol yn cael eu cyhoeddi ar 10 Awst (Chweched) a 12 Awst (blwyddyn 11). Rhagwelir mai’r canlyniadau dros dro fydd canlyniadau terfynol y mwyafrif helaeth o ddisgyblion yng Nghymru. Bydd y canlyniadau terfynol dim ond yn wahanol os yw’r radd wedi cael ei hadolygu a’i newid gan y byrddau arholi. Rhagwelir mai prin iawn fydd yr achosion hynny ledled Cymru.

Bydd disgyblion angen dod i’r ysgol er mwyn casglu’r canlyniadau.

Dyma fydd y drefn:

  • Blwyddyn 13: Dydd Mawrth 15 Mehefin 9 – 10am
  • Blwyddyn 12: Dydd Mawrth 15 Mehefin 10 – 11am
  • Blwyddyn 11: Dydd Mercher 16 Mehefin 9 – 10:30am

Ar ddydd Iau 17 Mehefin bydd clinic cefnogi ar gyfer disgyblion sydd angen cyngor am eu camau nesaf.

Amserlen Blwyddyn 7,8,9,10 a 12

Ar ddydd Llun 21 Mehefin, bydd yr holl ysgol yn symud i amserlen newydd, wrth i flwyddyn 9 ddechrau’u cyrsiau TGAU newydd sbon a chael blas ar flwyddyn 10 cyn yr haf. Mae hyn yn hwyrach nag arfer wrth i ni orfod canolbwyntio ar asesiadau mewnol blwyddyn 11, 12 a 13 eleni. Bydd yr amserlen newydd yn ymddangos ar ClassCharts. Fel o’r blaen, os oes unrhyw broblem gyda chi gyda’ch cyfrif ClassCharts, yna cysylltwch gyda Mr Ellis.

Amser Cinio Blwyddyn 7,8,9,10

Ers dydd Mercher, rydyn ni wedi newid y drefn gyda’r amseroedd cinio, wrth i asesiadau blwyddyn 11 ddirwyn i ben. Oherwydd rheoliadau COVID-19, mae dal yn amhosibl i bawb gael cinio’r un pryd.

O dan y drefn newydd, mae amser cinio blwyddyn 7 wedi newid, fel mai ond 2 wers sydd ganddynt yn y prynhawn am weddill y tymor.

  • 11:53am amser cinio blwyddyn 8 a 9 – patrwm gwersi: 1,2,3 cinio 4,5,6
  • 12:46pm amser cinio blwyddyn 7 a 10 – patrwm gwersi: 1,2,3,4 cinio 5,6

Dyledion Cinio

A wnewch chi sicrhau nad yw cyfrif cinio eich plentyn yn mynd i ddyled ar ParentPay, os gwelwch yn dda? Rywsut, mae rhai cyfrifon mewn dyled, gan gynnwys disgyblion blwyddyn 11 a 13. A wnewch chi glirio’r ddyled cyn gynted ag y bo modd?

Mae’n siwr eich bod wedi sylweddoli bod pris Pryd y Dydd (sy’n cynnwys diod) wedi cynyddu ers 3 Mai.

Prydau Ysgol Am Ddim a Chymorth i Brynu Gwisg Ysgol

Mae teuluoedd ar incwm isel ar draws Caerdydd yn cael eu hannog gan y sir i wirio a ydynt yn gymwys i hawlio Prydau Ysgol am Ddim i’w plant.

Gyda llawer o deuluoedd yn wynebu anawsterau a phryderon ariannol oherwydd effaith barhaus y pandemig ar gyflogaeth ac incwm pobl, mae’r Cyngor yn awyddus i sicrhau bod pawb sydd â hawl i gael cymorth yn cael y cymorth sydd ei angen arnynt.

Yn ogystal â Phrydau Ysgol am Ddim, mae cymorth ychwanegol bellach ar gael i deuluoedd brynu gwisg ysgol gyda’r Grant Datblygu Disgyblion yn cael ei ymestyn i gynnwys mwy o grwpiau blwyddyn nag erioed o’r blaen.

Gall teuluoedd â phlant yn y Dosbarth Derbyn, Blwyddyn 1, Blwyddyn 3, Blwyddyn 5, Blynyddoedd 7 i 11 wneud cais am gyllid i helpu i brynu’r wisg sydd ei angen arnynt ar gyfer yr ysgol. Gall teuluoedd hawlio £125 y plentyn a £200 os yw eu plentyn ym Mlwyddyn 7.

Mae’r estyniad i gynnwys mwy o grwpiau blwyddyn ar gyfer y flwyddyn academaidd hon yn unig ac mae gan rieni tan 30 Mehefin 2021 i wneud cais. Dim ond un grant y plentyn y flwyddyn a ganiateir felly ni fydd teuluoedd sydd eisoes wedi derbyn cyllid ar gyfer y flwyddyn ysgol hon yn gallu hawlio eto.

I weld a ydych yn gymwys i gael prydau ysgol am ddim neu’r Grant Datblygu Disgyblion, ewch i: https://www.cardiff.gov.uk/CYM/preswylydd/Ysgolion-a-dysgu/Cymorth-Ariannol/Prydau-ysgol-am-ddim/Pages/default.aspx

Ydych chi’n meddwl y gallai rhywun rydych chi’n ei adnabod fod yn gymwys neu a yw’ch rôl gyda’r Cyngor yn dod â chi i gysylltiad â theuluoedd a allai ddefnyddio’r cymorth ychwanegol hwn? Anogwch unrhyw un a allai fod â hawl i’r cymorth hwn wirio a ydynt yn gymwys.  Siaradwch â’r Llinell Gyngor ar 029 2087 1071 i gael rhagor o wybodaeth.

Profion Llif Unffordd

Diolch i chi fel teuluoedd am barhau i ddefnyddio’r profion llif un ffordd er mwyn diogelu pawb o deulu Bro Edern. Mae’r bocsys glas 3 phrawf wedi rhedeg allan, felly bydd y bocsys nesaf a ddosberthir yn cynnwys 7 prawf, felly’n para 3 wythnos a hanner. Dylai hyn fod yn haws i chi! Mae’r bocsys 7 prawf cyntaf wedi cyrraedd adref ddoe.

Swap Shop y Cyfeillion

Rydym yn dechrau ‘siop cyfnewid’ dillad yn yr ysgol ar gyfer cyflenwi gwisg ysgol ail law. Hoffwn ddiolch i Mrs Frost yn yr Adran Dechnoleg am ei brwdfrydedd gyda’r Cyfeillion ac am ymgymryd gyda’r trefniadau. Mae nifer ohonoch chi fel rhieni wedi codi’r ffaith bod llawer o wastraff tecstilau bob blwyddyn. Mae hyn yn arbennig o wir eleni gan fod yr ysgol wedi bod ar gau am gyfnod hir, felly mae tipyn o wisg ysgol sydd braidd wedi cael ei gwisgo ac felly’n edrych yn newydd sbon.

Hoffai’r Cyfeillion, felly, wahodd unrhyw riant sydd â gwisg ysgol sbâr i’w ddanfon drwy law eich plentyn at Mrs Frost yn ystafell T1 neu ei ollwng yn y dderbynfa. Bydd grŵp o rieni wedyn yn golchi pob dilledyn ac yn eu sortio a’u pecynnu ar gyfer eu trosglwyddo i gartref newydd. Bydd y ‘siop cyfnewid’ yna ar agor i ddisgyblion gasglu gwisg amser cinio dydd Mercher bob wythnos ac i rieni gasglu gwisg ar ôl ysgol ddydd Mercher rhwng 3:40 a 4:30pm. Bydd y stondin wedi’i leoli y tu allan i ystafell T1 yn y coridor. Nid ydym yn codi tâl am y wisg ond rydym yn gofyn am rodd tuag at y Cyfeillion er mwyn golchi a sortio’r dillad. Os nad oes gennych unrhyw beth i’w gyfnewid, yna peidiwch â phoeni, oherwydd mae croeso i chi gasglu dillad o hyd, a rhoi cyfraniad i’r Cyfeillion.

I ddechrau, ein blaenoriaeth yw derbyn siwmperi, cardigans a chrysau polo’r ysgol, neu dopiau a hoodies addysg gorfforol. Unwaith i ni dderbyn stoc o ddillad, bydd y siop yn gallu agor yn yr ail wythnos ar ôl hanner tymor. Isod mae ffurflen archebu i’w llenwi er mwyn hwyluso trosglwyddo dillad i’ch plentyn amser cinio.

Ffurflen Archebu: https://forms.gle/jkizUf5KXt2r2bgh9

Gwisg Ysgol

Mae’r swap shop newydd yma’n gam newydd wrth i ni geisio cefnogi teuluoedd Bro Edern a dylai hyn ei gwneud yn haws i bawb fynychu’r ysgol yn y wisg briodol bob amser. Cofiwch mai wisg ysgol neu git Add Gorff yw’r drefn – nid hanner a hanner. Gellir ond gwisgo cit Add Gorff ar ddiwrnodau pan mae Add Gorff!

Rydyn ni wedi casglu tipyn o emwaith gan ddisgyblion yn ddiweddar, felly hoffwn eich atgoffa nad yw modrwyon / breichledau / mwclis ayb yn cael eu caniatau. Un pâr bach o styds plaen yn unig a ganiateir yn y clustiau.

Boots Add Gorff

Yn sgil y neges am y Swap Shop newydd, buasai’r Adran Add Gorff hefyd yn gwerthfawrogi unrhyw boots rygbi / pêl-droed nad ydych bellach eu hangen – rhai sy’n rhy fach i aelodau eich teulu. Dylsent gael eu hanfon i’r ysgol at Mr Milsom.

Ewinedd

Cofiwch nad ydym yn caniatau unrhyw ewinedd ffug na lliw ar yr ewinedd. Mae angen sicrhau fod unrhyw olion o ewinedd ffansi’n diflannu cyn dychwelyd i’r ysgol ar ol hanner tymor.

Mabolgampau

Roedden ni wedi ystyried cynnal mabolgampau yn Lecwydd eleni, ond wedi darllen yr holl gyfarwyddiadau COVID-19 yn fanwl ar gyfer y math hwn o ddigwyddiad, yn anffodus y penderfyniad yw nad yw cynnal digwyddiad ar y raddfa hon yn ymarferol bosibl eleni.

Ewros 2021

O’r diwedd bydd Cymru’n cystadlu yn yr Ewros, wedi i’r gystadleuaeth gael ei chanslo’r flwyddyn ddiwethaf. Er mwyn dathlu’r bencampwriaeth hon, byddwn yn cynnal Ewros Bro Edern, gyda’r gwahanol ddosbarthiadau ym mlwyddyn 7 ac 8 yn cynrychioli’r gwahanol wledydd yn y gystadleuaeth. Byddwn yn cynnal y gemau grŵp ar yr un diwrnod (neu mor agos â phosibl) at y gemau grŵp go iawn. Byddwn yn tynnu’r enwau o’r het er mwyn gweld pa ddosbarthiadau cofrestru yw pa wledydd.

Er mwyn cefnogi ymgyrch “Gwisgwch Goch i Gymru” Ysbyty Felindre, byddwn yn gwisgo coch i gefnogi Cymru tra’n codi arian i guro cancr. Gofynnwn yn garedig i’n disgyblion ddod i’r ysgol mewn coch ar ddydd Gwener 11 Mehefin, sef diwrnod cyntaf yr Ewros, yn barod i gefnogi Cymru yn eu gêm gyntaf ar y dydd Sadwrn yn erbyn y Swistir. Gofynnwn am gyfraniad o £1 tuag at ymgyrch Felindre drwy ParentPay.

Cymdogion

Yn anffodus, mae lefel y cwynion gan ein cymdogion wedi cynyddu’n ddiweddar. Rwy’n credu bod hyn o ganlyniad i’r ffaith fod llawer o rieni’n dewis peidio â rhoi eu plentyn ar y bws ar hyn o bryd, Rydyn ni’n deall eich pryderon, ac yn deall yn iawn pam fyddai nifer ohonoch yn dewis gyrru eich plentyn i’r ysgol. Fodd bynnag, mae hyn wedi cynyddu’r lefelau traffig yn yr ardal yn sylweddol ar ddechrau a diwedd y diwrnod ysgol. Y prif gwyn yw cwynion am barcio, gyda rhieni’n gyson yn blocio dreifiau tai cyfagos, yn enwedig wrth aros i gasglu’u plant yn y prynhawn. A wnewch chi sicrhau nad ydych yn blocio unrhyw ddreif o hyn allan, os gwelwch yn dda?

Yn sgil trafodaethau gyda rhai o’r trigolion lleol, rydyn ni hefyd wedi cael cwynion am rai disgyblion yn mynd mewn i erddi’r cymdogion yn hollol ddiangen ac mae nifer o gwynion am ddisgyblion yn taflu sbwriel, gan gynnwys yn uniongyrchol i mewn i erddi. Mae’n debyg fod nifer o fygydau’n cael eu diosg a’u taflu ar ddiwedd y dydd. Nid yw hyn yn dderbyniol. Buaswn yn ddiolchgar iawn petai pob rhiant yn cael gair gyda’u plentyn am y ffaith nad yw taflu sbwriel yn dderbyniol mewn cymdeithas wâr.

Brechiadau HPV

Mae gohebiaeth a ffurflenni caniatâd am frechiadau HPV wedi cael eu hanfon i bawb ym mlwyddyn 8, ac ambell ddisgybl blwyddyn 9 a 10 nad ydynt wedi derbyn brechiad HPV yn y gorffennol. Bydd y disgyblion yn cael eu brechu ar yr 28 Mehefin yn y gampfa. Os nad ydych eto wedi dychwelyd y ffurflen ganiatâd, mae ei angen ar frys ar ôl yr hanner tymor. Mae’r awdurdod iechyd yn aros am y ffurflenni er mwyn iddyn nhw fedru archebu yr union nifer o frechlynnau. Ffurflen bapur o’r awdurdod iechyd oedd hon – cysylltwch gyda’r swyddfa os oes problem neu os yw’r ffurflen ar goll.

Prosiect Ieithoedd Blwyddyn 7

Mae disgyblion blwyddyn 7 yn mynd i fod yn rhan o brosiect cyffrous gyda Phrifysgol Caerdydd, dan arweiniad Mrs Tirion Jones yn yr Adran Saesneg. Mae neges gan Mrs Jones wedi cael ei hanfon at bawb drwy neges destun. A wnewch chi sicrhau eich bod yn llenwi’r ffurflen ganiatâd? Am mai prosiect ymchwil prifysgol yw hwn, mae’n rhaid cael caniatâd pob rhiant. Os nad ydych yn rhoi caniatâd, bydd eich plentyn dal yn cymryd rhan yn y prosiect ond ni fydd y brifysgol yn medru defnyddio gwaith a data eich plentyn fel tystiolaeth. Dyma gopi o’r llythyr unwaith eto:

Cwricwlwm y Clwstwr

Mae’r gwaith gyda’r Cwricwlwm i Gymru ar gyfer Clwstwr Bro Edern yn dod yn ei flaen yn dda am ein bod yn cwrdd yn wythnosol gyda’n cydweithwyr yn yr ysgolion cynradd. Hoffwn ddiolch yn fawr i’r disgyblion o flwyddyn 11, 12 a 13 a ddaeth i mewn i’r ysgol ar ddiwrnod cyntaf eu rhyddid er mwyn bod yn rhan o weithgor a oedd yn trafod cynlluniau Clwstwr Bro Edern ar gyfer y Cwricwlwm i Gymru. Mae llawer iawn o benderfyniadau i’w gwneud, ac roedd barn a mewnbwn yn disgyblion yn ddadlennol ac yn ddefnyddiol iawn.

Antur i Amlwch

Braf yw clywed am gynnydd staff a disgyblion ar eu ffordd i Amlwch. Mae 7 wythnos ar ôl er mwyn cwblhau’r 282km neu 175 milltir. Gyda’r tywydd yn gwella, dylai fod lawer haws i ni gyd fynd allan i gwblhau’r pellter!

Yn syml, dyma’r Antur i Amlwch:

  • cerdded, rhedeg neu seiclo 175 milltir, 282 km neu am 59 awr – dewiswch UN o’r rhain er mwyn cadw cofnod
  • gorffen dydd Mercher olaf tymor yr haf, sef 14 Gorffennaf
  • 🥇Her Aur: Disgyblion unigol i gwblhau’r pellter i gyd i Amlwch
  • 🥈Her Arian: 2 ddisgybl neu 2 aelod o’r teulu i rannu’r pellter, sef cerdded 30 munud yn hytrach nag awr bob tro, ac adio’r cwbl at ei gilydd
  • 🥉Her Efydd: 3 disgybl neu 3 aelod o’r teulu i rannu’r pellter, sef cerdded 20 munud yn hytrach nag awr bob tro, ac adio’r cwbl at ei gilydd

Gall disgyblion gadw cofnod o’r pellteroedd ar wahanol appiau ffôn megis Strava neu Health, neu gallant lenwi’r daenlen hon fesul diwrnod: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1taAduf2YZSkhF-s2I8RYWrWfkpHbnqBpp81wJz7c8ZA/copy

Rydyn ni wedi gosod Bro Edern fel clwb ar Strava. Gall disgyblion a rhieni ymuno gan ddefnyddio’r linc yma: https://www.strava.com/clubs/broedern Mae disgyblion angen bod yn 13 er mwyn ymuno gyda Strava. Byddwn yn derbyn fod unrhyw geisiadau ymaelodi gyda’r grŵp yn cyrraedd am fod disgyblion wedi derbyn sêl bendith rhieni er mwyn ymuno gyda Strava yn y lle cyntaf.

Cŵn yr Heddlu

Daeth Chester a Jake, dau o gŵn yr heddlu i’r ysgol yn ddiweddar, er mwyn cwrdd â disgyblion blwyddyn 7 ac er mwyn i’n disgyblion ddeall mwy am swyddogaeth y cŵn o fewn Heddlu De Cymru. Cafodd y cŵn gyfle i grwydro’r ysgol ac rydyn ni’n edrych ymlaen at eu gweld eto ym Mro Edern cyn hir.

Canu yn Tafwyl

Roedd y Tafwyl rhithiol yn llwyddiant mawr eto eleni, ac un o’r uchafbwyntiau’n sicr oedd gweld disgyblion o ysgolion ledled Caerdydd yn perfformio gyda rhai o sêr y West End. Llongyfarchiadau i Eiriana ac Alys, sef cynrychiolwyr Bro Edern yn y gân ‘Sa neb fel ti:

Rhestr Chwarae

Mae’n hen bryd i ni ailddarganfod tiwns yr haf, nawr bod y tywydd yn gwella o’r diwedd. Dylai’r rhain lonni eich hanner tymor:

Cysylltu gyda’r Ysgol

Carwn eich atgoffa mai drwy Bennaeth Blwyddyn eich plentyn y dylid cysylltu gyda’r ysgol. Mae nifer gynyddol o rieni’n ffonio’r dderbynfa ac yn gofyn i gael eu trosglwyddo i siarad yn uniongyrchol gydag athrawon pwnc. Mae’r athrawon hyn yn dysgu drwy’r dydd, felly yn anffodus nid ydynt ar gael, a dyma’r rheswm pam mai’r Pennaeth Blwyddyn yw eich man cyswllt cyntaf. Cofiwch hefyd fod amserlen ddysgu gan y Penaethiaid Blwyddyn, felly nid ydynt bob amser ar gael i siarad gyda rhieni. Oherwydd hyn, e-bostio’r Pennaeth Blwyddyn yw’r drefn yma ym Mro Edern. Diolch i chi am eich dealltwriaeth gyda hyn. Dyma’r manylion cyswllt ar gyfer tymor yr haf:

  • Blwyddyn 7: Mr Gary Ellis GEllis@ysgolbroedern.cardiff.sch.uk
  • Blwyddyn 8: Mr Kerry Lerwill KLerwill@ysgolbroedern.cardiff.sch.uk
  • Blwyddyn 9: Mr Steffan Jones SJones@ysgolbroedern.cardiff.sch.uk
  • Blwyddyn 10: Miss Bethan Yapp BYapp@ysgolbroedern.cardiff.sch.uk
  • Blwyddyn 11: Mr Huw Voyle HVoyle@ysgolbroedern.cardiff.sch.uk
  • Chweched: Miss Nia Land NLand@ysgolbroedern.cardiff.sch.uk

Fel y gwelwch o’r holl ddiweddariadau, mae wedi bod yn gyfnod prysur, ac mae cyfnod prysur arall i ddod rhwng nawr a’r haf. Ond unwaith eto, hoffwn ddiolch yn fawr i chi am eich cefnogaeth barhaus o bopeth a wnawn ym Mro Edern. Gobeithio y bydd modd i chi fwynhau rhywfaint o lonydd dros yr hanner tymor.

Pob hwyl

BILINGUAL BLOG – ENGLISH BELOW

Helo Bawb

Blog byr i chi cyn penwythnos Gŵyl y Banc gyda’r diweddaraf o Fro Edern. Gobeithio bod pawb yn cadw’n iawn a bydd cyfle i chi ymlacio dros y penwythnos, er na fydd hynny, o bosibl, yn opsiwn i bawb.

Achos newydd o COVID-19 yn y Chweched

Ben bore ddoe, cawsom wybod bod achos positif o COVID-19 ym mlwyddyn 13. Roedd y disgybl heb unrhyw symtomau. Yn unol â’r drefn, gwnaeth y disgybl brawf llif unffordd nos Fercher o’r bocs glas a gafwyd gan yr ysgol. Roedd y canlyniad a ymddangosodd o fewn hanner awr yn bositif, felly gwnaeth y teulu apwyntiad yn syth i gael prawf swyddogol. Roedd slot ar gael yn hwyrach y noson honno, ac fe ddaeth y canlyniad nôl yn syth y bore canlynol, sef bore ddoe.

Unwaith i ni glywed, fe anfonon ni bawb ym mlwyddyn 12 a 13 adref, er mwyn i ni gael amser i wneud ymholiadau pellach. Am fod y disgybl heb unrhyw symtomau, roedd wedi bod yn yr ysgol drwy’r wythnos, hyd at ddydd Mercher. Mesurwyd y dosbarthiadau dysgu ble roedd y disgybl wedi cael gwersi yr wythnos hon yn erbyn y cynlluniau eistedd a mesurwyd y Lolfa unwaith eto, a gwyliwyd ac amserwyd y teledu cylch cyfyng (CCTV) sydd yn y Lolfa. Mae hyn oll wedi golygu ein bod wedi medru anfon criw bychan o ddisgyblion blwyddyn 13 adref i hunanynysu, yn hytrach na chau’r Chweched. Nid oedd unrhyw un o flwyddyn 12 yn y radiws o 2m yn y Lolfa ar gyfer hunanynysu.

Rydyn ni’n ymwybodol fod yr amseru’n anffodus, gyda’r asesiadau yn eu hanterth, ond mae trefniadau yn eu lle ar gyfer asesiadau’r Chweched i gyd, gan gynnwys unrhyw asesiadau o gollwyd bore ddoe wrth i ni fesur ac amseru. Mae trefniadau hefyd yn eu lle ar gyfer y disgyblion sydd yn hunanynysu am 10 diwrnod. Os oes unrhyw ymholiadau, cysylltwch gyda Miss Land.

Mae’n bwysig fod disgyblion yn parhau i wneud y profion llif unffordd, oherwydd fel gyda’r achos yn y Chweched yr wythnos hon, mae cael rhybudd am ddisgyblion heb symtomau’n ein helpu i geisio amddiffyn pawb yn yr ysgol a’u teuluoedd.

Profedigaeth

Yr wythnos hon fe dderbynion ni newyddion trist am brofedigaeth ymhlith teulu Bro Edern. Mae un o ddisgyblion blwyddyn 7 wedi colli ei dad i COVID-19. Hoffwn estyn ein cydymdeimlad dwysaf ag Isaac Ohene-Adjei a’i deulu wedi marwolaeth Eric, tad Isaac yr wythnos diwethaf ar ôl cyfnod hir yn yr ysbyty. Roedd yn aelod poblogaidd o staff Tesco yn Llaneirwg a mawr yw’r golled ar ei ôl. Roedd hanes Eric i’w weld ar Wales Online yn ddiweddar: https://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/dad-three-46-dies-after-20416513 Rydym yn ymwybodol hefyd fod nifer o ddisgyblion Bro Edern wedi colli mam-gu neu dad-cu yn ystod y misoedd diwethaf, mae wedi bod yn gyfnod anodd i nifer o deuluoedd. Byddwn, wrth gwrs, yn gwneud ein gorau i gefnogi eich plant yn yr ysgol, fel arfer.

Rydyn ni’n parhau i gymryd yr holl gamau yn erbyn COVID-19 o fewn Bro Edern er mwyn ceisio lleihau ar ledaeniad y feirws. Er bod cymaint o siopau a sefydliadau’n ail-agor a phethau’n mynd nôl i “normal” ar hyn o bryd, mae angen i ni fod mor ofalus ag erioed. Mae llawer o’r staff wedi cael eu brechu erbyn hyn, ond mae’r mygydau, y diheintio, y golchi dwylo a’r system un ffordd yn parhau i fod yn bwysig yn ein bywyd beunyddiol ym Mro Edern. Diolch i chi am eich cefnogaeth barhaus i hyn, ac am annog eich plentyn i gadw ei hunan a phawb arall yn ddiogel.

Dymuniadau gorau

Hello All

A short blog for you with the latest from Bro Edern before the Bank Holiday weekend. We hope that you are all well and that you will have the opportunity to relax over the weekend, although this may not be an option for everyone.

New case of COVID-19 in the Sixth From

Yesterday morning, we were informed that there was a positive case of COVID-19 in year 13. The pupil had no symptoms. Following the usual guidelines, the pupil did a lateral flow test on Wednesday evening, using the blue box supplied by school. The result that appeared within half an hour was positive, so the family immediately booked an official test. A slot was available later that evening, and the positive result came back the following morning, which was yesterday morning.

Once we were informed, we sent everyone in years 12 and 13 home, in order for us to make further enquiries. Because the pupil had no symptoms, they had been in school all week, up to Wednesday. The classrooms where the pupil had attended lessons this week were measured against the seating plans and the Lolfa was measured once again. Also, the CCTV in the Lolfa was watched and timed. All this has meant that we have been able to send a small group of year 13 pupils home to self isolate, rather than close the whole Sixth Form. No one from year 12 was in the 2m radius in the Lolfa to have to self-isolate.

We are aware that the timing is unfortunate, with the assessments in full swing, but arrangements are in place for all Sixth Form assessments, including any assessments missed yesterday morning, as we measured and timed. Arrangements are also in place for pupils who now need to self-isolate for 10 days. If you have any queries, please contact Miss Land.

It is important that pupils continue to do the lateral flow tests, because as was the case in the Sixth Form this week, being alerted to asymptomatic pupils (positive pupils without symptoms) helps us to try to protect everyone at school and their families.

Bereavement

This week we have received sad news about a bereavement among the Bro Edern family. A year 7 pupil has lost his father to COVID-19 during the past week. I would like to extend our deepest sympathies to Isaac Ohene-Adjei and his family following the death of Isaac’s father Eric after some time in hospital. He was a popular member of staff at Tesco St Mellons and will be sadly missed. Eric’s story was featured in the Wales Online recently: https://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/dad-three-46-dies-after-20416513 We are also aware that many Bro Edern pupils have lost their grandparents in recent months; it has been a difficult time for many of our families. We will of course, try our best as always, to support your children in school.

We are continuing to take all possible steps against COVID-19 within Bro Edern in an attempt to reduce the spread of the virus. While so many shops and establishments are reopening and things are going back to “normal” right now, we need to be as careful as ever. Many staff have now been vaccinated, but the masks, disinfection, hand washing and the one way system continue to be an important part of our daily life at Bro Edern. Thank you for your continued support, and for encouraging your child to keep themselves and everyone else safe.

Best wishes
